Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Why did it take so long ?

New Octavia RS owner, well will be a new octavia RS owner in a day or two if I can make my mind up between DSG or manual.

Why did it take me so long to get around to driving something with this Drive train ! The jetta's , the golfs, the passats.. It's making me cry now that Ive been driving HSV/FPV for so long looking for that driving pleasure .. it was here all along.

I need some help to get across the line ... DSG in the Octavia RS - Prefacelift or Manual in the RS facelifted version. Id appreciate the opinions of people who have had longer experience with these drive trains.

    Welcome to the forum.
The DSG if you ask me. But you have to know what feels better, especially if you drive everyday in city traffic.

Some of my day spent in Melbourne, Hoddle street traffic. Love manuals, never owned an auto of any kind , DSG seems a good comprimise.

If it was me, i would go the facelifted manual as I prefer the styling and upgrades, plus i prefer the control of the manual.

However, the DSG is an almost flawless automatic box and I have only heard good things about it.
The only issue is with modifications if you plan any and the torque that it can handle.
They also did a recall on DSG's in the US and they will cost more to repair if anything goes wrong.

Hey Mate, I'd go the manual too! I drove a DSG car once (yeah, only once..) but I didn't like it. It felt like a wanky version of a crap gearbox - in relation to a manual car, that is. My post probably doesn't help at all, but oh well! Welcome anyway

So drove the manual , and the dsg .... Never owned an Auto .. but the DSG was just so sweet. The manual just didnt inspire me.

So I purchased the facelifted Octavia RS , in Anthracite Silver with DGS.

No more holden .... thank god.
