Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Brand new R32!

Hi all. I ordered a reflex silver R32, fully optioned, about 2 weeks ago. Will hopefully take delivery mid this week - very excited!

It's funny I actually went to the dealership to buy the GTI, but tested all others too while I was there. After driving the GTI for a while, I decided that that was definitely the car for me, however we finally got to the R32 and he just started the damn thing and I was sold! Then he revved it... and I almost fell flat. Why had I not known about this car for so long. Haha. That's my story. Hope to contribute here in some way and hopefully obtain help when I may need it.

Congrats on the new car mate I made sure that when I bought my car, the dealer didn't start anything other than a TDI or I would've signed for something I definately couldn't afford!!

We're having a photo shoot next Saturday night if you're interested (and if you have your car by then)...

I am looking to buy a in dash GPS system for my R32 Mk5. Anyone here knows where I can get the OEM one from? except VW (they cost a fortune!) ?
Like a 2nd hand or something like that?

I intend on coming to the photo shoot, just waiting on the venue I believe? And is it this coming Saturday? I had a look at the thread for it but am I right that we're waiting for a confirmation of venue?

Anyone have any suggestions of some good windy, scenic routes to take day/night trips in the R32 in/around Brisbane?

Hmm... Nebo sounds good... only 60kms away - 120+/- for return. gives me a chance to work my way through that (1500?)km wearing-in phase. Or something. haha. And test the GPS out.....

Hmm, I've since learnt that you work at the springwood branch RECRUT? But you go by the name Dru? I don't recall that name - perhaps we'll meet tomorrow - I'm coming in to snatch my shiny new R32 off your hands haha.

Yeah it was a great experience, very helpful, and everyone worked together like a team, there was no fragmentation - everyone was clued up on my case whenever I called or came in. I didn't even get a welcome close to that when I walked in to BMW to buy a 323i coupe last month - they were so blasé about the whole thing I felt very unwelcomed - good thing they had no stock of the spec I wanted (discontinued as of august), so I left and never went back- good choice too, after driving the R32 i think I made a better choice all round.

Welcome and congrats silver32. My experience of landing an R32 is not dissimilar to yours. As I was after a GTI or debating seriously on a GTI until I had a drive and a listen to the R32. Been on a hunt for one ever since and finally took delivery of a new Black .:R in July. Have fun with your car.
