  • NSW Tyres and Trannies.

    Hi to every-one.
My daddy brought his first VW in 1958, and I had a 68' in about 79'
Purchased my first new VW in 2001. An arctic white 5cyl manual Bora.
It was a good car made even better after I had Muller's "Australianise" it.
My current steed is a Granite Grey 2006 V6 4motion Passat sedan with all the fruit. Bought it new as well.
I also have a 72' Volvo 144 with 600,000 kms on the clock, hiding under a dust cover in the garage (I promise not to mention it again on this forum)

My first question is about Tyres... I have replaced the Pirelli P zero rosso with a brand called GT Radials... you remember Allan Moffat "I raced GT's now I drive on them" They seem to be a good tyre and do have this self energizing feel when steering, and I'd be content to keep them EXCEPT. they roar louder than lug tyre's on a 4x4.
I know 18' rims and sporty suspension and performance tyre's are a formula for road noise, but some one must know of a quieter brand. How about Yokohama's V550 ??? suggestions ???

Next question is about the V6 with the DSG tranny. Has anybody else felt that it runs up through the gears too quickly and is lazy to shift down. I drove a new 2.0 TDI golf the other day and its tranny behaved impeccably.
Is it just the programming of the V6 ???
I whined about it to the dealer on several occasions, and they test drove it and interrogated its little brain but said everything was ok.
Now its out of warranty anyway.
    Thanks folks... over to you.
Working...
