Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Not a VW, but close enough - Audi TT

    Howdy,

Dan from Brisbane. Drive 2008 Audi TT Coupe, 2.0T manual.

Joined the forum a while back as I needed a VAGCOM quickly and no-one in the Audi Forum had one (well, in Brisbane anyway). Joined here, sent a PM to Cogdoc and he graciously lent it to me for a week. Not bad considering he didn't even know me. And as luck would have it, he lived in the same suburb! ( I had no idea when I PM'd him - all I knew was Brisbane).

I still check in from time to time as I have to start thinking about my next ride. I change pretty regularly - every 12 months at least, with my record being 5 months in a new Territory. My history with cars since I got out of years in a company car has been:

2004 BMW 318i - black on black, sunroof, 18" M3 wheels, lowered with Eibach. Owned it for 10 months.
2006 Territory - Cashmere (fancy Ford talk for Gold), went all "family focused", no mods, owned for 5 months
2006 XR6 Turbo - Ego (Fancy Ford talk for dark grey), modded to 305rwkw, good enough for 12.5 down the quarter at Willowbank, owned for 12 months
2008 Liberty Wagon - Silver, got all "family focused" again, no mods, owned for 13 months
2008 Audi TT - time for some fun again!

I'm, already considering my next purchase - but probably not for about 6-8 months yet. Options are down to:

    - new MkVI GTi
    - new R20 depending on price and final specs
    - slightly used/demo S3 Sportback if priced right
    - demo FPV F6 or XR6 Turbo (modded, these things are just so quick with a great auto!)

They are getting great results from the new FG XR6 Turbo. One just ran down Willowbank at 10.7 with really minor mods (injectors, intercooler and piping, airbox and exhaust - unopened motor). Tuning is all custom and really quite accessible. BUT, the build quality of my last Ford was atrocious and I really don't expect it to have changed with the latest model.

Anyway, given that I am considering the new GTi or R20 (if it ever lands here) I thought I should hang around and check in from time to time to keep up to date with what is going in VW land. That and I would love to buy the Mrs a Touareg but we really only just bought a new Prado last June so we'll keep that for a while (that is now the "family wagon" which allows me some versatility with my car choice!).

    Cheers

    Dan

    welcome matey!

I'd be dead keen for a new F6 with the ZF 6 speed auto, that thing would just be ballistic.

I've sat in the FG and I recon the quality has definately improved over the BA-BF.... I'd buy one!

I cant belive that 10.7 is achievable with only those mods! unbelievable!

wouldnt be too bad on fuel either if you kept your clog out of it

Well, it was 8 months later I ended up getting the S3 Sportback. But sadly, it is time to move on again and I am selling the S3. I did APR Stage 2+ this time on the S3 (up from Stage 1 on the TT), and it was worth every cent. Car is currently being returned for stock ready for sale.

Next purchase - maybe a Touareg! Won't modify the Touareg, except maybe the 20" factory alloys. Time will tell.

          Cheers
