Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hobartian desperately seeking..

    G'day
I've joined as we're researching a used Caravelle/Kombi purchase - probably a T4 TDi Manual, but these are pretty rare on the used car market. It seems as if the auto is prone to probs with that model, but manuals are very difficult to find.

    An thoughts?
    Cheers, Nathan

Welcome to the forum nathand. What do you intend to do with the Caravelle/Kombi? As a main means of transport or a workhorse? Have you looked through the usual online advertisements like Mercury/Tradingpost/Carpoint/Carsguide,Tassiecars?

Thanks Aristocrat - I didn't know about Tassiecars. There's a ripper in the Trading Post in Deloraine but our budget doesn't stretch that far.

Family car, long camping trips in Tassie and on the mainland - nothing seriously off-road or remote. 3 kids with different sports and their mates, long limbs and the 88 Camry are all crying 'too much'

Perhaps you might ask some of the VW servicing specialists in and around Hobart. Sometimes they might know of some of their clients wanting to sell their vehicle. Its a long shot but sometimes might pay off. If you need some leads, please PM me.

I dont think any of my customers are selling in the foreseeable future, sorry.
Carsales.com might be your friend? I bought my Caddy from there and with cheap flights it wasnt that hard to pop up to Sydney for a weekend to grab it. Was a nice road trip and sailing. The boat is the dearest thing, and the rego changeover but the saving on buying from the mainland covered that.

Might have to be a petrol one if you are on a budget.

The TDIs are later models and thus more expensive.

Plus people hold onto em cos they are awesome.

Thanks guys for your support - am more than happy to go to the mainland, even to get a good Transporter and having seats put in it, but I've got no idea yet what the conversion would cost...
