Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VIC umm...

I'm Jace. I'm 20 and from Geelong in Victoria.
    I currently drive an NA6CE MX5 and a 1968 W108 250S Mercedes Benz.

I hope to be a MK3 VR6 owner very soon. I inspected and drove one today, and was impressed with the handling and braking abilities!
The one I inspected is located in Melbourne. It's auto, which is preferable for me because I can't control myself in a manual.

I like hardcore, hip hop, pop punk and post punk when it comes to music, as well as all the sub-genres you can think of.

Anybody else with an auto MK3 VR6? Things to look out for?

    Hi Jace,

    Welcome to the forum.

Glad to see another hardcore fan! (spose you werent in melb checking out parkway drive at the same time as the VR6 ) i don't have a VR6, but been told they can wear out front tyres quickly... but its not a fault of the car

Have a look through the MK3 golf/vento section, I'm sure there have been a few posting the same questions as you.

Any pics of the 1 your looking at?

I'm also pretty happy with the braking system of my car.

Hopefully the braking is the feature of the car you buy, rather than much breaking.

A few quick questions while I think of it.
              a) What are the PCD's (stud patterns) of the different Golf models?
              b) What's the pitch of the thread on the wheel studs and gear shifter?

Anything else I should be aware of that might come in handy when I get to the stage of buying presents for my VR6?

                      Thanks mate.

Going to head to the bank through the week. I'm too impatient.
I'll definitely come to a Melbourne meet ASAP.
Looking forward to getting into this car.

I've got a set of Rays Duralumin black wheel nuts. Bought them for my MX5, got impatient and bought cheapo chrome heavy ones and haven't bothered to change them over.

By the way, here's a few pictures of my current cars.

I plan on selling the MX5 and replacing it with the VR6.
The wheels on the MX5 are 4x100, +35 actually. Maybe a Golf driver would be interested in them.
