Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hi From Mackay

Hi Guys, I found the site on Google and just had to join. I've just purchased a Touareg. Interestingly my first car was a 1964 beetle (which I hated with a passion but the old man insisted) so have now come full circle. I've previously owned many 4WDs including Tojos, Pajeros and the like, the most recent being an 07 GU CRD Patrol which was not only thirsty but gutless as well. Good car otherwise and 63K klms withou a problem
I find being a member of a Board where like minded people chat is both beneficial and enjoyable. Why a Touareg? I'm a 4WD person as well as a caravanner and needed to consider a more powerful and more economical vehicle to the Patrol. Getting 25L/100k towing, and being restricted to 90kph on the flat didn't win me but a vehicle with 176 kw and 550 nm of torque certainly did. I did look at a few options so hope I have made a good choice.
Better shut up now before I wear out my welcome. Cheers KP

Welcome mate! Good to see a new off-road member. The Treg section hasn't been the most active recently which is a pity, but the Tiguan section has been doing well. Hopefully you can help getting your fellow Troureg owners active again!

You got any pics of your Treg? What options etc did you go for on it? I think you can get the Adaptive Cruise Control on the new Treg can't you? ANy other cool toys?

Welcome Mate. I live in Townsville, but am overseas with work as we speak. We have a litttle bit of a VW following up in the Ville, but more to do with Golfs and Polo's . If you come up, drop us a line.

        Hi mate,

It will be interesting to see how the new Treg goes on fuel by comparison. 25l/100km sounds pretty bad from the Patrol. My 1HZ Cruiser didn't get that bad when towing my TT around ealier this year and sat on 100 no problems on the flat.

        Cheers,

        Phil

Thanks for the welcome guys. Sorry I can't post a picture yet as the car is still on a transporter from Melbourne (I hope). Tell ya though, one thing I've learned is there is not a lot of aftermarket gear out there for the Treg
I have only optioned the tow bar and tint as the car was fairly well kitted out
You guys may be able to help though. I wanted to fit a bull bar but after ringing East Coast Bull Bars, seems they are not able to be fitted due to the intercoolers. However there are nudge bars available, Do the nudge bars available for the earlier models fit the later models as there is a nudge bar being sold on ebay for the earlier model. The seller doesn't know if they will fit the later series
          thanks guys. Kerry
