  • Hi, '76 mk1 here!

Hey all. My name is Tim, and I'm driving my first golf, a '76 mk1.

It has a 1.8L out of an '86 mk2, new shocks, stereo system which I custom installed myself, (was a pain, but definitely worth it!)

I'm pretty keen on fixing this baby up a bit... lowering it, getting some better wheels, new exhaust system, (hoping to find some extractors?) a web. etc. and eventually dropping a new engine in.. I'm basically signing up here because I'm new to golfs... and would like info from anyone who has worked with them and has experience.

I had a guy walk up to me last night in town, while I was in my golf, offering to buy it from me for 3k.. I thought about it and declined. I'm too attached to this little beast!!

Hey, welcome to the site. It's a great place, you'll find plenty of advice and guidance on here.

And 3k seems too little for the way you've described it..

Yeah, with all the work that I have put into it myself, I couldn't let it go for 3k... I'm too attached to the girl!

Thanks for the welcome I'm looking forward to getting to know people and becoming more familiar with these beautiful machines.

3k! nice one. Personally I'd sell mine for 3K. But I've never seen yours in person, but it does look to be pretty tidy and in pretty good nick!

There's plenty of info on this site about upgrades of all sorts, so have a search around. Maybe start up a resto thread, if you're planning on it being a bit of a project!

Oh, and welcome to the fold!

              Welcome to the forum.

3k is quite a big offer OMO.
I sold my red one for 2.5K and it had all those bits on it...oh and the 1.5k spary job on it . Don't forget know matter how much you spend on a mk1 you will never get that money back.

I reckon it all depends on the buyer as well, and how much an mk1 golf means to them. This guy already has 2 golfs so I'm guessing he's pretty much in love with them, haha.
