Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hi everyone,
Had a mk1 Golf for about a year now.I bought it for my son to learn in (his choice),it's a ''77 2 door 1.6 Auto,in brown.
I've been working on it,bit of mech. restoration, and i'm surprised how well it's aged and how robust it is.
I find i'm increasingly driving the Golf instead of my car or bike.Am I getting hooked?
My first car was a ''58 Beetle, that was 20 odd years ago and I thought i'd kicked the habit.Maybe not.
Will join in some events and I'll definitely be going to the VW show in Nov. at Cranbourne.
Great Forum by the way, very informative.
    Andy.

    welcome to the forum.

you son sounds like a bright fella if he chose a golf! hahah

It's amazing how well they'll treat you if you take care of them.

got any pics of it? I'm guessing it's standard still??

And yes, I'd say you're getting hooked!

Gonna get some photos up tomorrow when my son can load them in.
Golf is standard and has a well looked after interior.
Body has the odd scrape and ding.Only rust is in the hatch window hole under the seal.Got a good hatch being painted, just need new rubber seals.Had the roof repainted due to surface rust.
        THEN i discovered rat rods
It would have looked great as a rat with the brown colour and it has original black & white rego plates, idiot!!
Yours is a nice unit Jarred, might be looking for a manual 2 door myself soon.
I won't be sleeping with it though,no matter how hooked I get.

          Good to hear,.

I think everyone would love to have a 'rat' but after a while, most people would get sick of it, and unfortunately most people would just see it as a bucket of junk, rather than a 'rat-rod' of sorts.

p.s., If you're talking about manual 2 doors, I'm guessing you must be talking about my old car, my current one is 4 doors and diesel.

The golf was at the panel beaters in Ringwood last year.
Old girl across the road backed into the front of it and squashed the bumper and right guard.
Had the roof painted as well.Often on Maroondah.
Give us a beep if you see me,water boy

I wish I got to that photo shoot, would have been cool all those golfs in one spot.
Brown is the new Black. We're still doing the Learner Driver thing but Velly's wife is top of the list come selling time.
                120 hours is killing me.

Sorry jarred, didn't catch on that was your old car.
I was at a workshop in springvale not long ago and the bloke had a diesel with g/box for about $300,said it ran well, might intrest.

apologies, can't do the quotes yet-small steps

Wonder what shenanigans they got up to after the lights went out?
Maybe your mk3 likes 'em old and wrinkly.
My mk1 would have been rapt.Bit of toyboy action for the old girl.
