i have looked through this site a fair bit but it is on a sad note that i have become a member as i am needing to sell my girl, 76 mk 1 golf. been a joy driving such a awesome car and showing people that though they may look old, they pull off like nothing else i've drived (but i don't need to tell you that). anyway here a few pics of the old girl.

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

cheers,
yeah the rust issue isnt that bad it spent most of its life before me under cover not moving.
i cleaned up the damage in the foot wells, which i understand is sort of common, but it wasnt that bad to start with.
further details: brand new shocks - standard, wasn't really into lowering it at the time, though now that i look back they do look nice a bit lower.
and a general service, timing belts etc. the engine itself hasn't really had any work still bog standard. (high 250's though, owner before the last used to drive it alot)
i have tried to keep it as standard as possible once i learnt about that the swallowtail, the next thing i was going to do was replace the rubber around the window as understandably it is starting to perish.
feel free to ask more, this was just a quick update as im out of SA at the moment so dont have use of a computer.
