Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • mk1 heap.

scored myself a mk1 golf today. cant wait to play with it! there's a lot of work to be done to bring it back to life but it should be fun.
it's a 1978 GLD with 500,000km on it still runs, was rebuilt 40,000kms ago. has a heap of surface rust ect. but its cheap so i'm going to have a crack at it
i love this photo cause it makes it look so bad! home made bull bar and all!
if you have any parts for me i'll be chasing a lot of stuff in the coming months. first thing being a new grill and stock front bumper lol

Cool. What were they thinking with that bull bar? It's a golf, not a patrol!

got the golf in the garage and the bullbar and grill out.

                    man it's ugly.
there's quite alot of surface rust on the roof and bonnet, more than i thought.

Celebrate the rust and leave it as a banger.

It looks like it's a Transformer lurking in disguise in the last pic.

Just make it a rat - much easier for the panel work then

                        Good luck with it!

                            Nice one Mike!

Keen to talk to you about your mates 4x110 rims, want to buy them as I have an old mazda with the 4x110 stud pattern and wider guards so would fit no problems.

Can you PM me to discuss.

                            Thanks!

                            Myles.

Has it had any dings or is it pretty straight. I love seeing another golf beating around. Good luck with it and maybe I could come take a look at too!
