Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    please

My name's Brock and I live on the sunny coast of QLD.
Soon enough I will have my very first VW! A 1981 mk1 cabriolet (im getting it for free ). It's going to be a biiiig project car and hopefully you guys can help me out on it seeing as i know absolutely nothing about them. I currently have a corolla KE70 as my project car but am letting it go as these golfs look amazing and what i've read are a fun drive! haha.

first thing im going to do when i receive it is take it to the mechanic and get him to check it out to see if the engine and tranny is even worth it.
then i''l be needing lots of parts haha. if anyone can help out and give me the names of some places that would be greatly appreciated! i will be needing (big list):
    carpet
    all windows
    roof
    headlights, tail lights
    grille
    left door
more too add when i get the baby.

    thanks for reading!
