Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello people

    Hey guys (and girls?),

I'm Erik, 28 years young and a rado (corrado) fanatic.
I registered here a while ago, looking around for some information on importing a rado into Australia.
I'm from Holland, moving down under in less than two weeks (5th of may).
I will be moving to Sydney (Hornsby area).
Before getting any real info I sold my '94 rado vr6, thinking I wouldn't be able to import it since it is a left hand drive.

After I sold it I instantly regretted it, so I will be looking to either buy one in Australia or more likely import one.
    Any information is appreciated.

I have looked a little into the cost of importing a rado, but to be honoust I couldn't care less what it costs, I must and I shall have one again.
The other rado owners on here know what I mean

Anyway I had a few questions I hope one or some of you can answer for me.
Is it allowed / possible to import and drive a left hand drive rado in Australia?

Never have been in Australia, what are the general road conditions there?
Is it as bad as lets say, America, or as good as western Europe?

Since rado's were never officially sold in Australia, how hard is it to get original parts? (I like to tinker, consequently breaking things :p)

I think that's it for now I will try to check back regularly, though I am quite busy at the moment organising to move and all.
Thanks in advance for any help

unfortunately the only real way to bring one into the country at the moment is by owning it and using it overseas before coming here!

Our import laws make it difficult bringing in anything built after 1989. To register it in most states it would need to be converted to RHD.

Corrado specific parts would need to be imported when you need them most likely.

Mmm unfortunately I won't have the time or money right now to go look for one at the moment.
So if I get this right, I won't be able to pick one up when I go visit family for christmas and bring it back to Australia? damn shame

you would need to purchase one over there. own it for 12 months at least and prove that you have been using it during that time.

How would one go about proving something like that?
