Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hello from Canberra!

New to the forum and new to the brand...

I'll be picking up my first Volkswagen this Friday, a brand new Passat R36 sedan.

    EXCITING!

    Colour: Blue
    Options: Sunroof & Sat Nav

Will get the windows tinted ASAP.

Got a drive away price of $70k which I thought was pretty good - especially for Canberra.

Modifications: ZERO! I really can't see how this car will need any... Suspension, exhaust, gearbox, performance are all AWESOME!!!

I've traditionally been a Holden man. Since November 2006, I've owned three VEs - a V6 Calais sedan, V8 Clubsport R8 and V8 Calais V Sportwagaon. Before those I had a V6 VX Commodore and before that a V6 VT Commodore. I'm loving the idea of the Passat R36 V6 that performs almost as good as a V8. But moreso looking forward to a car that seems to be overall a much better package than anything I've driven in the past. Also looking forward to being an active forum member, learning as much as I can about the VW brand and enjoying my new ride!

    So, HI EVERYONE!

    Cheers!

Hey, I am from Canberra too.

Nothing too fancy here though, a candy white 06 Polo GTI with custom (black) leather inside. Owned it for about 2 years now.

It was a nice step up from a 1990 Ford Laser that had just kicked over 300,000ks!

Bit jealous of your ride though, sounds awesome.

Well.... Picked up the R36 today and WOW! This is easily the best car I've owned (and it's my 12th).

Went over it with a fine tooth comb and have already read the whole manual cover to cover. The one complaint I have is that the sunroof won't close automatically when I turn the car off or when I lock it with the window auto close feature... A small thing and that's it! Everything else is UN-FARKIN-BELIEVABLE. Germans know how to make cars, that's for sure!

Just got to get the windows tinted ASAP and I'll be happy. Oh I did notice there is no tinted strip across the top of the windscreen. Why is that? I don't mind I just find it curious. Oh, also if I'm sitting in the car and turn it off, there's a faint whirring sound like a small fan still running coming from the dash somewhere. Any idea what that is?

I'm pretty sure I'm the happiest guy in Canberra tonight! WOOHOO!!!

Another nice drive today... My love affair with this car is growing more and more every day.

Worked out that the sunrood DOES in fact close like the windows do with the key after you get out and lock it.

Also worked out that it's the thermofan on the radiator that I can hear continuing after I turn the car off.

So far, I can't fault this awesome piece of machinery. Read up on launch control tonight so going to see how that goes tomorrow!

I LOVE how the cruise control works too! Anyone know where I can get the VW umbrella for the door pocket?

Really glad to hear how much you like this car! The Germans certainly know how to make superb pieces of machinery.

I still haven't taken any photos (and won't until tint gets done) but here's a couple that were taken today by someone else...

Picked it up Friday afternoon at 4:30pm and took it for an *ahem* Sunday drive at MDTC (http://www.mdtc.com.au) today.

These are when I was giving people the R36 experience, needless to say there were a lot of people VERY impressed. This was a day put on by the ACT HSV Club, of which I am a member. They could pull away on the straight but I caught and passed them in the twisties...

                            SUCH A BLOODY FANTASTIC CAR!!!
