Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Hey all.. 1991 GTI MK2

Brand new to this forum and world of the VW, that said Im really excited to be here. Have moved from the world of Jap turbo's the Euro NA's!!

The ride I am running is a
1991 GTI MK2 - Red (Get some pics soon)

Had the car for a couple of months now, saved up enough money to get everything really fixed up, but I do have a series of problems and was hoping someone could point me towards a workshop and or parts supplier located in Melbourne.

    Major issues include:
    Power Steering Pump
    Sequential between 1st and 2nd
Ticking from the engine when I engage the clutch??

I am also looking to source some plastic skirts and bumpers, or is there some way I can recondition my current ones?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and I love to know if there are ever meets or cruises here in Melbourne.

In prahran. Really like the look of your ride. Did you do an 8V to 16V conversion, or did you just get it that way?

                Welcome mate

Welcome mate. Rest assured once you sort out your issues that car will be bullet proof. Had the 16v engine for 7 years and it still runs as strong as the day I bought it.

Managed to track down the Seat 16v engine (ABF 2L 16v - 1999 SEAT Cupra). Just want to confirm this is the correct engine to buy before I head off and put a deposit down on it?

Anyone going to Carribean Gardens on Sunday?
