    Hey guys

just got my 1995 Golf Vr6 over from Perth to join our other cars here in Sydney; 2004 R32, 2007 GTI and "ahem" Subaru wrx wrp10 (daily driver)

need to get the thing licensed as it lapsed in Perth while were over here

I guess the rta would like working rear windows, so I guess my first bit of work will be to remove the door trims and checkout why the rear windows don't work...

While it was getting serviced in Perth at GolfWagen - Joe mentioned that some of the wires in the door have been cut -hopefully not when i had Alberts Car stereo install some mbQuarts in the rear doors and dynamat !

Second, piece of work will be to tear down the engine and replace all of the gaskets as she has done 240,000kms and has small leaks everywhere, give it a nice steam clean...but she made the crossing from Perth in 3 days and had no trouble negotiating slower traffic and thanks to the H&R cup kit and sticky tyres dodged roos well too !

While I am on the engine the thermostat and crack pipe will be changed out small leaks around these atm. I hope to find a decent oil cooler to install also.

    cheers
    Paul

On early VR6's there was some kind of recall on the rear wiring in the doors...

wouldn't be surprised as the rear regulators have been replaced a number of times by the stealership

I am considering getting door cards from vr6s sent to Japan and install winders to get licensed

You might want to look for 4-door CL wrecks - they came with manual winders, front and back.

Sounds like a nice little garage you have there Paul. Have you just moved from Perth, or did you come over here just to buy the car and got Joe to inspect it before purchase?

Oh I should sort that out...I have had the 1996 vr6 since 2000.

Bought it with about 60,000km on the clock...just seemed like a better deal than a new mkiv gti back then.

I installed the H&R cup kit suspension and also added a set of BBS RC 17x7.5 a set of Conti Sport Contacts 215-40/17 then Kuhmo 255-35/17 and now back to running 215-40/17 Hankook S1 Evo 107s ...Sebring cat-back exhaust and BMC CDA intake.

Took a break from work and drove around Australia with my wife taking our time in the Barrosa Valley and other great wine regions. Think we put 20,000kms on it in 4 months of driving, but we never had any issues not even a flat tyre.

I moved to Sydney in 2007 for a "tree change", my wife and I had both worked in mining or mining related companies, as you do in Perth. I drove over with my wife in her new gti Easter 2007, after sorting out a rental I went back to Perth to finish up at work. I then drove my R32 out to Sydney in August 2007.

I found an IT job pretty quickly but found I was doing too many kilometres in the R32 (approx 1500kms per week) so I decided to get a cheap runabout - unfortunatley I decided against going to Perth to get the vr6; that would have been the sensible thing to do and decided to buy a wrx I found on Carsales

The wrx is OK but it isn't a VW, its best described as a tin can with a great engine and OK handling...and its going as soon as I can sell it as I am no longer working atm

Actually my wife is driving my wrx as I crashed into a mazda 3 coming out of Hawkins Lookout, above Wisemans Ferry a couple of weeks ago...her gti is with Jade getting fixed.

I need to find a job - lose 50kilos in weight and turbo my R32...probably finding a job first will help with the other two

              Welcome mate
I can help with all the VR6 Woes, we are at Campbelltown and have all spares for that car.
Manual windup mechanisms are about $120 brand new from VW, but most VR6 owners dont wanna fit them to their cars and would rather continue to buy electric regulators

20k in 4 months? .. thats crazy! Ive done Sydney -> Perth and back within 2 weeks and thats pretty crazy enough as it.. your plain nuts buddy lol.

Another golf @ Jade Auto! that'd be 4 from the forums this month alone lol

I assume you did the exhaust after the long drive or how did you go with the sound everywhere in australia should i say i guess?

                  Hey Fuzion

I had to do some work on the vr6 before leaving Perth. The exhaust was pretty beatup and rusty. Options were to install a nice 2.5inch custom system from the boys at Genie who were going to make up something as straight as possible and just have a magnaflow muffler at the rear or go with a Sebring 2.25inch catback system Perth Exhaust had ordered in for another vr6 - who was a no show...well I was digin' the "look" of the Sebring and after it was fitted I really liked the sound !

part of the system was a straight pipe to delete the "suitcase" - was abit of drone around 3000rpm for awhile but that seems to be gone now...probably time for a new exhaust anyway...mild steel doesn't last forever SS here I come.

We drove all over each state we visited, so the kilometres piled up quite quickly. When I say we drove around Australia, I should point out we toured SA, NT (derestricted roads), VIC and NSW - briefly hit Queensland but by that time we both decided we missed our own bed and wanted to get home !

What sort of work were you doing in the mines?

Welcome aboard mate. Must say I don't mind the colourconcept in yellow. I thought it'd be hideous but those photo's show it nicely!

Good luck with your engine cleaning, heheh.

I am kinda over it - I had a yellow integra type r before i picked up the vr6...so at the time I guess I was really into yellow !

Although, I did look around for a black CC but I don't think any came to Australia - those germans have a weird sense of humour.

I was thinking of going nimbus grey with some aftermarket seats and door cards - something like this http://forums.motivemag.com/zerothre...ostid=53934410

The paint has really copped a battering while it was in storage...I had originally parked in my folks garage after I sent our wolsley to the metal scrapers...but somehow my dad pushed my vr6 and left it in a sunny spot for 12 months...he thought this would provide the incentive for me to come and get it sooned than I did

When I do the colour change I plan to save all the CC stuff incase I ever want to go back

Thanks mate. Very cool rides indeed! I'm surprised how nice the yellow looks on the VR6. Although the grey would look ve' nice. Is the CC a 6-speed manual? And are they MKIV Anniversary wheels?

                            5 speed manual

no, bought the bbs RC 17 x 7.5 through Wheelsworld in Perth, they are ball polished -and forged - abit rarer than the cast RCs but they need some tlc to get them back up to scratch...next time I clean them up I will post a pick of a closeup.

...probably a kilo or two lighter than the stock bbs solitudes which are 15x6.5
