Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • George from Sydney

    Hello all,

    George from Sydney here..
Purchased a 2L TDI DSG golf from barloworld a couple of years ago for my wife.
it burns more oil than a 500hp old school 351.

Anyway just introducing myself, looking forward to reading up on all things VW.
    Cheers.

Hi Gearge, welcome to the forum.

My TDI drank a fair bit of oil until it got to 15000k & then it settled down.

    Enjoy your stay here.

Welcome George...Are you sure you got your Golf with a 2.0L TDI, or a old Detroit 2 Stroke Diesel!! Have you had it looked at under warranty??

haha good old detroit diesel's..they didnt burn the oil they just leaked
        from everywhere.

Well the oil light came on after 6000km's that was about mid 08, it had its
first service at 8500km's (12 months) now its got just over 14000km's and the lights back on took about 500ml's to the top up line on the dip stick.. Im not really worried about it at this stage, just find it funny that a new age diesel engine still like's to burn some oil.

Yes the car is 2 years old and has just over 14000km's

mine went through a lot of oil but never got the light on

I'd be getting it looked at prior to the warranty running out

I'll get it looked at before the warranty runs out no doubt.
I run some heavy haulage trucks when they do light work they burn oil quicker
than when doing the hard yard highway runs.

The golf does short trips more often than long ones which is probably why its burning oil quicker than the rest.

The petrol would probably be more appropriate for what we have used it for so far but the torque got the best of me during the test drive

Comparing it to truck duties is not really a good comparison but a diesel engine
is a diesel engine. They love hard work.

            And thanks for the Welcome!
