Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • New GTI Owner

    Hi All,

Wanted to introduce myself. My name is Andrew and I have just picked up the keys to my new Reflex Silver Golf GTI yesterday. Options I got were DSG, Leather, Sunroof and Ipod Adaptor.

I am really looking forward to learning more about this car on the forums and getting involved in some cruises.

I traded a VE SS for this car, and prior to that owned an STi and WRX. So really looking forward to the GTI and it's improved build quality. I also think I am well positioned to offer advice/my thoughts when discussions around the WRX are being discussed.

Like many of you I would love to do more research on what mods might be best and in what order. Also if there are any other good websites/forums you might recommend to help with my technical knowledge.

It would be great to hear peoples thoughts on running in. I know they are factory run in, however what did you guys do with your vehicles and what changes have you noticed as the km have increased.

Anyway will post some pics when the temp drops below 45 .....

BTW although my tint has yet to be fitted, the AC worked sensationally yesterday in that Melbourne heat....

Anyway just wanted to say hi, and look forward to meeting you all.

    Welcome!!

I'd love to know what you think of the VW feel compared to your last few cars. I came from a Commodore, and looked at Impreza WRX/RS (insurance!) before going for a low km GTI MkIV.

Gday Andrew - another Melbourne Newbie!

My other car is a VZ Lumina, and the Golf just creams it for handling and road manners. The Commodore feels like a battleship on the road compared to the Golf - well it does to me anyway!

Like you, my aircon works perfectly in this heat, dragging the cabin temps down much faster than in the Commodore (less volume I guess)

As for running in, there are plenty of threads here about running new cars in - my advice is to drive it normally, dont pussy foot around, and all will be well.

Yeah, don't do what my old man did. Apparently the Jetta TFSI book suggests running in using all gears at different speed. That's how he justified 200 kmh in the first month anyway. Hmm....

Well done my first 550km in the new car.

          What i love-:

          Build Quality
          Sunroof
Can see around corners again ( VE SS thickest pillars in the world)
          The Chassis
S on the DSG (and paddles)
          Steering Wheel

          What i could live without-:

          Awkward drivers mirror
          D on the DSG

So far really impressed and it just not get noticed which I am really enjoying coming out of the SS and before that the STi.

I am telling heaps of WRX buddies about this car!!!

          Drive carefully,

Silver - Were/are you a member of the Vic WRX Club?

I have defected (about too anyways) from being a 6+ year, 2 car turbo Subaru owner.

Sean - Yes I was a member of the WRX Club, live out with Jenna and Pete R on the edge of the bushfires.

Have done just over 1000K in the GTI now and absolutely love it. I drove the STI that Kasdave in Geelong now drives.

Vin also did lot's of work like you on my car's and I am keen to explore modding the GTI once it has a few more km's....

I hope this club is similar to the WRX Club, if so I am very much looking forward to it. Let me know when you get your Polo...

                Cheers,
                Andrew

                  Hey Andrew!

Arrr, I just spoke with Peter today. He rang me about the track day out my way this weekend. Not sure if I am going to rejoin, I just don't have much time to get to Melb now with having a young family.

Yes, I will clock the kms up quickly this weekend I reckon! Yep, I know the car. Very clean one at that!

My old MY00 spent tooo much time at STI, but Vin, Pete, Jez, team are all great blokes. I will be getting an APR reflash as soon as I have had my first service at 1,500kms.

The WRX Club is very active, it is life for a number of people. Not that is a bad thing, you can just put a heap of time into it very easy. I did at one point and clocked up 20,000kms in 5 months! Lots of fun tho.

                  Cheers Andrew, I will do!
