Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • stuck between a rock and a hard place - should I sell my GTI

    Hi guys,
Just joined but I've had a look a few times and enjoyed the comments. I have one of the amazing MKV GTI's in beautiful black with only 1 option, the DSG box. I bought it second hand and have had for a good 8 months but I'm thinking of selling. 2 reasons, cash - in too much debt and secondly, I'm a mad fan of older cars. I love this mkV and it's a fantastic drive but I think I'd love a mkI or mkII more! If I could sell I'd be able to clear debt and buy a cheaper car!
    Any thoughts or advice?
    Matt

    Welcome to the forum!
Do you need the reliability of a newer car for family and /or work commitments? If you cannot afford to eat then yes, you should think about downsizing to a car you can purchase outright. Be prepared to spend cash on upkeep on an older car - how much of a home mechanic are you and will you have the time to 'tinker'?

    Cheers.

Sell that MkV GTI and get in to a proper Golf. Im 110% sure you will love an older golf more than a new on, there is nothing like a mk1 or 2. So much more character.

      MK2 FTW!!!!

Thanks guys, I'm prepared for a financial loss to nake a fun gain!
hehehe, Nice Spyda. I like your enthusiasm and I like your pic and I agree. This new one is amazing but I miss 'driving a car' if that makes sense. These ones are so well made and tech heavy that it's easy to drive. You don't start having to work in the drivers seat until you're going really fast and by then it's fast! mmmm. Think I'll try Carsales again. Speaking of Carsales, there's a rally/race one for sale - 76 model - wonder if it could be road registered!

AS much as i love my MkV and its power, safety and comfort.....i think id part with my MkV over my MkII. Even though its off the road at the moment and ive come close to selling it.....love driving it....its a way off yet but cant wait to get it back on the road!

MkV GTI's are a dime a dozen....MkII's not so much....
