  • Performance??? Mk4 Silver Gti Any Ideas??

    Hi guys, New to Watercooled.

I was previously driving golf mk4 1.8, now ive upgraded to the GTi mk4

In need of some performance tips/ideas and recomendations.. im struggling to beat non turbo cars!

Engine is stock with GFB blow off valve.

ANY TIPS/RECOMENDATIONS For small add ons within budget to get some power happening????

Parts for VW is not cheap here in Aus. Your best off saving the money and getting something worthwhile.

Try these guys : http://www.goapr.com.au/ for some power up options.

Find someone to check out the ECU for fault codes before, spending cash on any upgrades.

      There's other options besides APR.

no offense, i wouldnt say apr is a "budget" or cheaper option

you have GIAC, APR, REVO, and Gavin also does Custom ECU Coding as well.

Heres a quick run down to maybe help you out. (price dependant on who you know/to where you go)

*Chip Upgrade (most definitely the most WORTHWHILE mod for the car) $900-1400
        *3" Downpipe $300-450
*TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe - from Airbox/MAF to Turbo) $100-350 (depends if u want a cheap one or expensive one like Forge etc)
N75J Valve $150+ (will hold more boost up higher then your standard valve -wastegate)

I would save for a chip, then go from there as you will notice a very large diference in power
        What’s behind you doesn’t matter..

Like Gavin and Fuzion have said, by far the best and probably first, performance mod should be ECU upgrade. It will set the stage and take advantage of other mods down the line. It isn't a "budget" mod, but is by far the most worthwile imo.
Gavin just flashed mine for me and I had a 2.5" dump pipe fitted up last week. Next weekend is fitting a EuroJet SMIC and TIP.
I've been dynoing each mod stage so I can see how each one interacts and improves the car.

            Fuzion:

How much of a difference will these mods make.

            I was qouted 410 for a 3 inch downpipe.

Im still yet to get qoutes on a chip.

Would u recomend a Forge Closed Loop diverter Valve instead of a BOV?? If not would would u recomend.

a chip will give you about a 36% power gain... to around about 120kW at the wheels. i have the same engine as you and i just have the chip and dual port BOV. i was last dyno'd at 123.8kW (see sig pic).

yeah i understand that but i didn't think it was a significant difference. hence why i said power increase would be to ~120kW atw and a 36% increase in power.

my car on the dyno got a 39.4% increase i power.

it was never intended to be completely accurate but just a ballpark figure to put a sweet taste in his mouth.

APR quote a gain from 110kW/220nM to 146kW/325nM for the Golf MkIV GTI.

closer to 33% but still damn good. if i was jumping into a VAG 1.8T for the first time i wouldn't be looking at anything else but a chip.
