Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • South African MK2 GTI

Hi everyone, my name is Michael and obviously I'm new to the forum. I'm currently in the process of getting my 1987 Mk2 Golf GTI ready for registration, it failed a roadworthy earlier this year when I moved from NSW to QLD. I've discovered nobody has much info on the South African built models and I'm still having difficulty finding such simple things as radiator hoses and oil filters because nobody lists parts for MK2 golfs before about 1990.

This is my first VW and I've been more than happy with it, prior to the Golf I owned an E30 323i and an E28 528i both great cars and you can get almost any part you want from a BMW dealer but they're way too expensive.

    Bye for now.

    Michael

Welcome mate. I reckon you have the best model Mk2, a proper GTI, mechanical injection and the 110Hp engine.

Most of the radiator hoses will be the same as the aussie cars. If there are any differences, it will be the same spec as a pommie GTI.

Any tricky parts you need, ask on here we are a friendly bunch.
