Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • SA 2.0 TDI 2009. Fuel pumps did not get power at cranking

Hi guys, new member from Adelaide here. I am sharing a Passat TDI 2.0 2009 with my son. We have 3 cars in the family and we take the one that fit the need. We have a MG HS that is a nice car but mainly use as classy, high view on the road, fantastic driving help and perfect for small shopping. The Passat Wagon is when we need a tow bar or we have long stuff for the back or the roof. Comfortable too, but very low for old people or people with leak knees or back like me . But appreciated by my wife as the seats are heating . And we got an old Getz that bring us from A to B but a manual one, so kids stay away from and 3rd gear is not locking and kicked out, we use 1-2-4 and 5 only, so not ideal when we need to go up a steer hill .

Here my issue : we got the driving belt that exploded. I installed a new one for him. After I restarted the engine, I headed under to replace the wheel and the plastics around it. I noticed some clear liquid leaking under. A drop every 5 seconds was going on the floor. I tried to find by odore what it was. It was looking like oily but clear liquid. I found that my secondary pump was leaking diesel fuel. That is likely the reason the belt get destroyed like that... I ordered a new secondary pump (Bosch) and after I installed it, I primed the two pumps by un-connecting the electrical connectors and powered the pumps directly with an external 12V. I ran both pumps for 30 seconds, three times. After that, I reconnected all electrical connectors and tried to crank the car but nothing... I do not have any VW computer (VCDS or VAC COM) to connect, just a small code reader. I checked with a multimeter that during cranking, no power was provided to either pump. I ran manually the secondary pump with my external 12V and let it run while I moved to crank the car and the engine started. It starts. I ran just a bit as I don't want to run dry as I was only using the fuel present in the filter (as the main fuel pump was not running). I check fuses and all seems OK, power arrive at fuse 28, only thing I have not been able to do is check the relay. Any tip to test the relays ? Or any explanation why the computer would not power the two pumps ? I just find strange both pumps are not powered... Any help ? I have someone that will come with a VW computer next week but if I can get that car back to my son, it will save us a lot of money
