Picked up a 2013 Passat Alltrack recently to replace my worn out but beloved 2010 Holden Commodore. I love the low profile of station wagons and the extra space per weight ratio in comparison to SUVs. A German engineer mate also recommended the Alltrack having bought one of the same vintage.
It's pretty amazing in terms of new tech compared to the old Holden but what I really appreciate is: better fuel consumption, higher ride and 4 wheel drive handling for extensive country driving I do, push-button tailgate and large cargo volume. As for the rest, I'm still working my way through the not-always-clear manual and having a little chuckle at stuff like the bizarre cruise control settings (push wand up to increase speed by 10kmh increments and push down for 1kmh).
I bought the car from Pickles and although it's almost 10 years old, it only had 83,000 km on odometer and seems to be in terrific condition, judging from service book and my mechanic's inspection.
But I have heard the DSG transmission can cause problems around 110,000 kms. Can anyone confirm this? Is this anything I can do to avoid this?
Are there other long term issues I should be aware of?
Thanks
