Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW 2014 VW Tiguan - Infotainment system keeps shutting down

    Hi there,
I've been encountering issues with my Infotainment system (Radio/Navigation system) in my 2014-VW Tiguan since Mar 2022. When I turn on the ignition, the infotainment system turns on by default however it fails to load and keeps restarting. This prevents all the media, reverse camera, climatronics etc. operations actually inoperable in the infotainment system. Basically, the booting of the infotainment system is not successful/complete. Is there any thing that I can do to fix this? Is it worth doing so? Upon checking with a couple of VW car dealers, they say it's nothing to do with the mechanics rather it sits with Radio guys. True???

    Google advocates the below:
Some of the common reasons why the infotainment system won't turn on because of the power source failure include blown car fuse, wiring issues, blown valves or lack of power to operate the system. To troubleshoot the power failure, switch off the vehicle's power supply.

Sounds like it might be a NAND failure or the OS is corrupted. Do you know what model the unit is? A photo will help us work it out if you don't know.

Once we know what model it is, I would try updating the firmware before digging deeper into the issue.

Thanks for your response. As I don't know the unit's model , I'm affixing the photo of it.

Thanks for the pic; your unit is an RNS510.
Unfortunately, many of these units are starting to fail due to age; the old ones have HDDs that wear out.

        Check out these threads.
Updating the firmware - I would try this first.

Firmware updates for RNS510 units in Australia/NZ

If this does not work, I would start looking at options to either upgrade the unit or replace the HDD.
