Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I have a fondness for the MK2 JETTA,as that was my first VW,and made me a huge VW fan.
I bought it brand new in South Africa in 1988,and it gave over 300000 kilometers of great service to me,and then my Father.
Thers cars were top sellers there,as well as in America,Canada,Mexico, parts of Europe, and China.I think in all those places it out sold the Golf A2.
It is still the top selling car in China.
I have since influenced many freind, family members, and collegues to buy VW.
I then moved to America, where I bought a brand new Jetta 3,or Vento as it was called here,in 1994.
I moved back to South Africa in 1996,and bought a new Jetta 3,which I had until I immigrated to Australia 8 years ago.
I then bought a new Holden Astra CD,and at the end of 2006 was able to get myself a MY 2007 JETTA.
My first car by the way was a 1982 Ford Cortina.
            Back to your Jetta...
I have NEVER seen a A2 in Australia...where was it from, which model is it,what year etc.
            I saw a MK1 a while ago,ex South African in immaculate condition,and quite a few A3 CLX,CSX,And CLI models all ex SA.
I think all the Boras and A5 Jettas are local models,so would love to hear more info, and PLEASE post some pictures.

from what i know it is an import from south africa. it a little rough, needs a paint. i would like to put an 1.8t in it, altough i do have a fondness for the vr6 (supercharged of coarse), but petrol is rather expensive. ill get some photo up shortly, just need to learn how, hah.

Looks like it was Alex's - those pulled fender flares

From what I can see, this looks like an early model 1985/6/7 base model with the later model rear bumpers.
Looks like it needs lots of work, but will be well worth it.
I would fit the origional style of Jetta head lamps, they made the front of the car.
The Golf round ones, and expecially single ones, spoilt the look of the car.
Thanks for the pictures, post more as the car progresses.
