Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Newbie Tiguan Slave

    Good Day All,

Two days ago I became the owner, slave, Responsible Person, and occasional driver of a 2018 ex-demo 140TDI Highline R-Line. I've found information and help very useful from other vehicle forums; this one seems equally good.

I already have a few minor questions which I'll ask later, and a slightly bigger one right now: I'll be looking to swap the 20" rims/tyres for 18" units in equivalent condition - almost new, ~6,000 km.

    Congratulations and welcome!

Any reason for changing the 20’s?

Understand if you’re going off-road but I’d be sticking them in the shed and putting back on when selling. The Rline is pretty unique with the 20” Suzuka rims.

      Hi Tigger,

Thanks for the warm welcome, much appreciated.

No, I'm not going offroad, I merely want a smoother ride and cheaper, more durable tyres. The R-Line was chosen mainly for the brilliant steering (I came from an R-Line Golf), but the ride on the 20's, even on the DCC's almost unnoticeable soft setting, is quite harsh.

I'd do as you suggest, but buying 18" (or even 17") wheels/tyres will cost a chunk of money, whereas with mint-condition wheels and new tyres I should be able to get a straight swap, possibly with some money my way.

As for resale, I'll almost certainly be trading the Tiguan in 3-4 years, and having non-R-Line wheels will hardly change the (rubbish) "price" at all.
