QLD Give a N00b advice on attempting to sell a MY08 Individual Pack EOS

Hi guys, I'm new here but it seems as though this is a great community for anything in the spectrum of advice regarding VW's.

After 10 years with my beautiful EOS, the time has come for me to bite the bullet and attempt to sell her in Brisbane. Truth be told, I haven't attempted to sell such a niche-market car in the past, so was curious as to what advice the experts at VWWatercooled could give me on the matter.

Any advice from previous EOS owners who found themselves in a similar predicament would be greatly appreciated

My Sister has an EOS and I used to have a Mk4 Cabrio. The best advice I can give is price it for what it's really worth, not what you think its worth.

IIRC, at 10 yrs old I bought my Cabrio for $13500 which was about 255 of the original $51k purchase price (the receipt was with the paperwork). On the positive side, I sold it 18 months later for $12500.

My Sister has been keeping an eye on prices as she intends selling soon. I think she said ~$10k.

Present the car well.

Write a good ad that makes people want to look at it. Don't use the wanky carsales templates. People are concerned about condition, service history, amount of rego left, tyres and how it looks. Mention any extra option packs / options / extra features.

I had one last year and it was a PITA to sell.

2008 2.0TDI, 6sp Manual, km's weren't bad about 150,000kms from memory. Black colour with red leather. Full service history, excellent condition.

Put it up for $9,990. Ended up taking $7k after 3mths.

If it helps, Redbook values the above example at $5,600 - $7,400 (based on 165,000kms - 275,000kms).

Although majority of the ones on CarSales are between $10,000 - $12,000.

Being a niche vehicle don't panic if you don't get a lot of inquiries. You won't get the volume you would get with something more common (like a golf) but the inquiries you get will be genuine.

Brad is spot on on both counts.

Price it to sell, EOS's attract a certain buyer (and eventual seller) which is why on CarSales, they're ALL clean with low km's. Because that's the type of people that own them.

Also think about the type of person that would buy your vehicle. If it's diesel 6pd manual, who is more likely to buy it.

A female who lives in the city or a male who lives just outside town? In this case, I'd say male, doesn't mind the smell and power of a diesel and it's punchy.

If it's a Petrol, automatic this would be more suited to female in the city. Auto for convenience and petrol because it's cleaner. Make sense? Word the ad for your target buyer, don't use the BS CarSales template. That ain't gonna sell an EOS. GLWS
