Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Weird buzzing/vibration in dash vicinity in Golf R MkV11.5

Hi, newbie here from regional NSW who likes chat about VWs and specifically to ask you good folk if you've any experience with a buzzing noise in the dash area of a Golf? Mine is an R, Grid Edition 2018 - purchased new. It has about 9,000 kms on the clock. Buzzing noise kicks in between revs of 2000 to 3000. Outside of that range there is no noise. I've had mechanics at 2 different dealerships look at it at least five times since September last year to no resolution. Last time the head tech at the place I bought it said vibration was coming from instrument cluster and they replaced it with a new one from Germany. The buzz is still there.

No one seems to have a clue and corporate seems pretty (very) uninterested. This is the fourth Golf I've owned, all from same Sydney dealership, first time I've had an ongoing issue.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Wendy

Hi Wendy, I have 2017 Tiguan with the same issue. On my first visit, the dealer said they weren't able to reproduce it, so I recorded it and took it back. They said it was the fuel line that was vibrating so they replaced the clips. It did make a difference, but it still makes the noise from time to time (less frequently, and not as loud). I only had it fixed last week. I need to take it back again.

Here's a video of mine (before the repair). Sound familiar?

Have you been parked beside a Toyota. Some of those Kiilawasps might have migrated LOL

Really random question, but are you a Sydney FC fan by any chance?

This is going to be a weird question, but do you have one of the newer etags?

We had a annoying buzz/rattle in our new BMW M2. Was driving us nuts as it only kicked in on certain road surfaces and revs. Wasn’t the vents or anything on the dash but was definitely something in the dash

Turned out to be the etag wasn’t correctly clicked into the mount. Pushed it in harder and buzz was gone.

Thanks. It's not dissimilar, slightly different pitch but same MO, i.e. kicks in at 2000 plus revs.

Very much appreciate everyone's advice. I did record the noise, might try and post audio file.
