Passat head unit RNS 510 in restart loop and stuck at VW Global screen..

Could be software issue, disconnect car battery, while disconnected, hold power button to drain last bit of power out of the system. Connect battery again. I'm just not sure if disconnecting battery could cause any other issues with the car's system. Have read that a hard reset solves lots of issues.

Cheers dinot81, I will give it a try tomorrow morning. A bit more background info here. The factory RNS 510 (1T0 035 680 T; HW H23; SW 6270; B 17.01.2014) in my 2014 VW Passat now stuck at the VW World start up screen and in a reboot loop, it went wrong after the mechanic changed the water pump and auxiliary belt for my car last week. There was a movie dvd in the head unit at that time and I then took it out, but problem remains. I then did a lot of research, downloaded SWL and firmware 6276 ISO from Volkswagen RNS 510 Firmware Download Repository | my-gti.com, burn them on to DVD-Rs with slowest speed, put it in the unit with pressing the left, right, eject and star button at the same time. The unit seems to be loading the disc and restarted a few more times, but still remain at the welcome screen without any scripts. I also tried disconnect the battery for 10 mins then connect it back, (did not do your trick to drain the battery though), did not help.. If you could think of anything else or know where I could send the head unit to get it fixed, let me know too. Cheers..

If you have the dvd burnt already, try this:

1. Open car, do not put key (remote) in ignition

2. Turn on unit, hold "eject", "i or star button" and "setup" until the syatem reboots into "Load SWL Disc" mode and then insert disc and follow on-screen instructions. Might take up to an hour and eject disc to restart unit.

Unless Oz version is different to other cointries, maybe worth trying.

Hi Guys, I've got the same problem which I have been trying to figure out for the past 2 days and hours of reading and downloading things that wont burn to disc. Could you poss help me with the things i need to download and what sortware i need to also used to burn the disc's. Ive been and gotten Sory CD-R 700mb which didnt work so i tried the TDK DVD+R with the same problem. Im pretty stuck on what todo next...

Iv'e got the exact same problem, and with the same RNS510, although a few years on I can't acces the link to download the 6276 iso. Anywhere else i can find this? Without having to pay?

5238 is good enough

Sadly, it didn't get past the "SETUP SOFTWARE LOADING APPLICATION" the green progress bar was maybe 95% complete.
Should I try again and wait a longer? (waiting around 30mins already)

Is there drawbacks with downgrading to FW5238? Losing Map etc?
I was hoping if i was upgrading to FW6276, it would solve my stuck on welcome screen issue and retain Map data.
