Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Good for me!
It has done over 200k but it is going quite well at the moment aside from a few niggles:
    - I think the a/c isn't working
    - I have an oil sensor warning message on startup
    - the right tail night needs to be replaced
    - the drivers door doesn't trigger the interior lights, which otherwise work
    - the hood gas strut needs replacing

    Lots of good things, though:
    - coilovers and adjustable shocks! Great around corners, really great
    - very good paintwork and general condition
    - all electrics work
    - Pioneer aftermarket stereo
    - breezed through inspection for rego
    - 4WD works

So, I am going through the servicing routines- oil and Haldex and filters. Good fun.

I could use your advice- do you have a source for oil and Haldex filters?

    Thanks,
    Tony.

I bought my last filter and oil for the Haldex off a site on EBay. I can’t remember which one but I’m sure there are plenty. It was considerably cheaper than from the dealer and I get my parts at trade price. There is a site on EBay called Gas strut guy I think who is quite reasonable for struts. I bought a pair for my Polo GTI hatch off him.
The door not triggering the lights is probably the door lock module. Do you hear the fuel pump run for a second or so when you open the driver’s door? Mine still works the lights but the fuel pump doesn’t run which just means it takes a second or more cranking for it to start. Yours is just a baby. My 2001 Bora 4Mo, or now my son’s has done over 400,000 k’s. Interestingly he owns a Passat R36 and an Audi Q7 and he still loves driving the Bora.
2001 Bora 4 Motion Sport now used by number two son
2011 Skoda Octavia Scout now with Underground Performance tune
2010 Jetta 125 tdi dsg for the misses - Impressed
2006 Polo GTI - Enhanced by some of Gav's magic - Absolutely loving it

Thanks for your suggestions, I'll check it out. I am enjoying it a lot. My previous European cars have been Alfa 75 and Alfetta GTV, Fiat x1/9, Peugeot Mi16 and Saab 9000. From all of that, I thought I learned my lesson with project cars (don't get me started).

bgroper- nice car. I expect them to be very reliable if serviced, I'm counting on it.

For me, I kinda like the wheels because it contrasts nicely with the white- the PO rattle-canned them and the rearview mirrors with titanium black. Anyway, it isn't a priority, yet.

Huh, the interior light started working again, so I will pretend it was user error.

Thanks again, I'll be lurking and replying,
          Tony.
