Referrals?

I'm ashamed to ask, but was hoping someone is able to shed some light as to what the referral means in our user profile?

Just interestes me so I tried google:

Is that right? How does it work?

Yes, although most people can just type in the username of the forum member they know who invited them when they register. As far as most forums go there are no actual rewards for having a high referral count (up to the administrator).
