Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Forum Dictionary / Glossary

    well theres so much internet jargon out there and forums are full of abbreviations and acronyms and even though ive been using the internet since not long after it was made widely available, i still dont know what half of them mean and i'm sure im not alone.
    maybe a forum dictionary thread made sticky would help? just add to it the ones you know and we could make a comprehensive list

    personally i know almost none of the techy abbreviations

    ill start off with some of the obvious ones

    hp = horsepower
    imo = in my opinion
    imho = in my humble/honest opinion
    kw = kilowatt
    lol = laugh out loud
    maf = mass air flow (meter?)
    nos = new old stock OR a company: nitrous oxide systems
    np = nps = no problem/probs
    oem = original equipment manufacturer
    offset = distance between centre of wheel and hub mounting face
    pcd = pitch circle diameter (distance between the centres of opposite bolt holes on a wheel, works on 4 stud )

    There's already a thread on this somewhere... I think it's under this section too.
    Past: Mk3 Golf 2L 8V, Audi 8L A3T.
    Present: Mk3 Golf variant.

                      I know this is a very old thread, but people may still refer to it, and purchase a wrong wheel or whatever.

                      PCD is NOT " the distance between opposite bolt holes ",

                      it is the distance from " the centre of one hole to the centre of the opposite hole "

                      or you measure from the inside of one hole to the outside of the opposite hole.

                      Hope this helps someone.
