The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. If we meet up at say 6am for a 6.30am depart, that way we can be near the great ocean road at sunrise at 7.30am.

Also, any geelong people can meet us on the way...

This gives us a mainly traffic free road, a better drive, and the ability to do stuff in the afternoon.

The only problems might be the date, as it is coming up soon and people have to plan around it, and the weather.

Lunch is a must, and could be done at lorne...

And the drive home could be via the inland roads.

    Remember, if we go..
No driving on the wrong side of the road...(especially blind corners)
    No stupid actions...

    SEAN.

yeah if u do GOR on a weekend it has to be stupid early like sean says. Otherwise u may as well drive thru the cbd in peak hour traffic.

sounds like an idea tho so long as the weather holds out.

its ok. the great ocean rd doesnt have gutters. It only has cliffs or guide rails. So u cant damage any more rims

GOR cruise would be sweet.... but.... driveing down the freeway for over 1 hr in a 4 speed...

There are MUCH better rds closer and they are also a much better drive. As you know I ride a motorbike so I know all the best rds.
Blackspur is easly the best, but has the most traffic. Sucks in a car. Reefton spur is a little further out from melb (u go through black sour to get there) and it has no traffic and is awsome! Keep about 2.5 hrs to get there.. but its also a GOOD drive whith nice rds.... although, the best rd is chum creek rd.. its almost as good as blackspur, but alot closer. Newly re-surfaced so is SUPER smooth... when my cars up and running ill post a drive out to there.. there is also lots off food shops there to.. all these rds are near healsville and warberton (spelling?)

black spur and reefton spur get ultra slippery this time of year. especially early in the mornings. The snow season is not far off so the mountains i would think arent the best place for a "spirited" drive.

I do enjoy a spirited drive myself on "roads I know". A friend of mine crashed on the black spur (which I am unfamiliar with myself) trying to keep up with my golf. That said I think if we want a "spirited drive" and not a "cruise" why not save and go down to a phillip island track familiarisation day as a group.

The cost of these days would be about $120 for the day roughly from memory. And you need a cams licence which also costs, and you also need to be a member of a car club which also costs. Helmet, fire extinguisher and secondary bonnet catch(can be made cheaply). It adds up to a fair bit if you're a first timer.
But the cost of one of these days would be a lot cheaper than the cost of replacing your car if you crashed it on the Black Spur.

GOR is fun if you leave melbourne at 5am and do the run at 6.30, otherwise its traffic city. The trip up to the GOR is boring, more speed traps than commodores.

I'm up for it if 1) doesnt rain 2) early start.

But from past exp most people dont wanna get up at 5ish for a cruise.

I checked on the bureau of meterology site, sunrise isn't until 7.30am....
So it would probably be too dark at 6.30am
