Hello VWWC members,
In recent months some members have voiced their hunger for more track events to increase driving skill and have more fun with their vehicles in a safe controlled environment.
I have undertaken enquires to other clubs that hold track events to gauge how they provide safe events for their members.
One which stood out to me was the Short Track timed events which are held at Lakesides DTC (Driver Training Centre). The Lotus Club of Queensland currently hold events in the first half of the year from March to August and often extend our forum an invitation.
The organisers are really pleased with the events popularity and success over the past three years, and get great numbers of participants every time.
The intention would be to hold a VWWC short track event of the same type and format.
The Lakeside DTC is at the rear of Lakeside Raceway and has a combination of layouts. It comprises of a bitumen track with fairly flat open grass run off areas in most parts.
The Timed Lap event format will be a single car run for a timed lap. The aim of the event is to have a fun day in a safe controlled environment; it is not about winning it is about having fun.
Unlike Happy Laps, the there would be a higher level of administration for participants such as:
QMSC Licence (Clubman Day licence could be purchased on the day)
Recording of licence number
Driver briefing before event
Sign on sheet before event
Helmet is mandatory
And (possibly), requirement to obtain and present a Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance Rally Extension letter from you CTP Insurer
This short track format is a good median between the Happy Laps format and Sprints/Time Attack.
If you are interested in this please respond accordingly. If we have sufficient numbers a more formal plan will be undertaken and further information provided.
