Mercury use to post the sheets on their website, but it's down under construction. Guess we'll have to wait and see who will post theirs!

Very true. I was at a dyno one day when a sweet Monaro came in and pulled 380 rwhp and he wasn't happy. Left it in the shade for an hour with the hood up and pulled 405rwhp when he ran it again.

I had just arrived as well. I went home for an hour. Drove 10-15 minutes back and went straight on.

You did to. So add that to the reasons.

I've noticed my inlet temps get to about 50 degrees in the bottom of the airbox on sitting for 10-15 mins, and it takes a good hour plus for them to drop back down. Heat is an ABSOLUTE killer for turbo HP. I'd put money down that this is the biggest factor in disappointing runs. Your intercooler is like a heat sink, and if it's hot, as happens when you stand with a hot motor, it's actually a hinderance. Remember, big piece of metal with no airflow beside hot motor!

I arrived a good two hours early, pulled my bonnet release a few kms up the road on the drive there, and sat there till my run with the bonnet up. My LCD temp probe in the airbox still read 32 degrees just prior to my run. Still, I pulled a suprising number for a stock "125kw" diesel:

Jaymz my oiler partner in crime has a torque curve of both our TDI's so hopefully he can come up with some numbers?
For the record, he also ran his car with the air con on! DOH!!

Despite how much power your engine has, if it can't sustain that power, eg heat soak, intake temps, then you're only achieving sporadic peaks that don't last or mean anything. And if you're running a dangerous AFR, that's even worse. The S3s running lean are a good example. Be interested to know if any of the Polos who ran lower than expected numbers were running a rich AFR Bet they were. IMO, intake temps are critical to turbos, even though that view remains unpopular.

IMO, if you really want big power, there's no short cuts, get serious about the intake and intercooler, otherwise keep it basic and operating safely.

Great day. Good to meet some of the peeps from around the place. Cheers to Shane and Simon too.

I was one of the S3's that had their run cut short. Interesting to note that both S3's ran identical AFRs and even the polo's were running almost the same AFR so don't think the S3's were actually running lean. Anyways, something to do some research about before the next dyno run.

Hope to see some of the friendly faces around the place again.

                  Cheers
                  Kyle

Did you drive back quietly, or were you on boost a fair bit?
Exhaust gas temps SKYROCKET on boost.... and petrol cars have higher EGT's than the weezy diesels.
Make a huge difference to the heatsoak temp of your car mate. You let it cook for that critical hour at home as well. Would have been nice and toasty!

I was careful to drive there like a granny, and it still took my car 2 plus hours to drop standing temps back into the low 30's!
