  • Feeler - Drive up through Reefton/black spur

    Ok,

    Dates Available are...

    12th of April
    13th of April
    27th of April
    4th of May

So the proposed route is Eltham BP (There are no toilets here) at 6:00am for a 6:30am departure. Head through Xmas-hills to Yarra-valley take a left on the Melba High-way and than a right onto the Toolangi road to make our way through to Healesville. Stop at Healesville at the Pie shop for some breakfast/Toilets (7:30ish I am guessing) and than on-wards and upwards to the Black-spur, through to reefton spur than up Lake Mountain with a shot at the top and some toilets. Down again and towards Warburton (Maybe a photo shoot at the Resorvoir) Stop at Warbarton for brunch and head home various ways i.e. Lilydale or Back through Healesville/Yarra-vally. Probably about 300 Km's with a lot of it being in the twisties.

What do you guys think ? I really do not want any hero's on the trip, if you wish to come along behave, otherwise go by yourself. i.e. Don't overtake on blind corners (Like I have had some Skyline GTR's do to me on the spur) and let faster bikes/cars/Speed-Granny's through.

I will give out my mobile number closer to the event in case anyone gets lost.

Please have a full tank of petrol, water, check tires/lights/oil.

    Regads,
    Qsilver

                  Sorry, I forgot I posed this !!!

Went up there about three weeks ago and I had someone on the side of the road in a Subaru Out-back with what looked to be a camera... I think.

The Spur is very well known, the Reefton spur not so much.

In Any case, you don't need to drive extremely hard on these roads to have fun.

With my Bora, I normally keeps the revs at about 2800 to about 4500 with an occasional wind-up to 6200 but I feel bad doing that !

Besides why would you want to max-out on public roads where there is huge trees, bikes leaned over, Tree branches making the road slippery (I know because, I ride),cold-weather and help a long way off if something happens.

Yes, they are starting to trap a lot more on the spur, there was an article recently about it and they also have a CBR 1100 Black-bird which is un-marked patrolling.

So let me set a date !!

I did the Black/Reefton Spur run this morning. In clockwise rotation....Healesville, over the Black Spur to Marysville for breakfast and then return via the Reefton Spur to Warburton and home.

I encountered 2 wiseguys on the Black Spur ( one in a Rex and the other a Mazda RX8 ) but simply pulled over and let them go. As far as the Reefton Spur was concerned, I was amazed to find not one other vehicle or bike during the entire run. I had the Spur all to myself. It was most enjoyable.

This picture was taken at aproximately the summit of the Reefton Spur.
