    MCM FUN DAY #4

    Ladies and Gents.

Ever wanted to drive your own car around a track the V8 Supercars race on? Well here is your chance!

Come along and experience a Fun Day at Winton Raceway! Our Fun Days give you the chance to drive your own vehicle around the ‘Nation’s Action Track’ for a small fee of just $35 for the day per participant (whether you are a driver or passenger). One of the highlights for the day is allowing drivers to take passengers out on the track, making it an awesome experience to share with your family and friends.

Cars will be safety checked for road worthy/race worthy condition, so make sure there are no loose objects inside your car or boot, no oil or fuel leaks, and an effective muffler (must not exceed 95dB 30m from the side of the track). All participants must have a helmet and be wearing a long sleeve shirt and pants (flame retardant material).

The Fun Day is for cars only and will be structured with sessions for ‘drivers only’ and sessions for ‘drivers and passengers’. A compulsory drivers briefing will be conducted in the morning at approx. 9.30am.

So come along to the next Fun Day and take advantage of this opportunity to share your passion of motorsport with other enthusiasts!

It is Free for those who wish to just watch from the side of the track and meet a heap of the members

More info about the event can be read here: winton raceway Fun Day Frequently Asked Questions

When will it be held:Sunday the 19th of January

Where will this be held?Winton raceway

    Time track opens:8:00 AM

    Gday Folks,

This Sunday, the 19th of Jan, is the twice yearly opportunity to drive your car at Winton on the track for a whole $35! All you need is a ADR approved motorcycle helmet and a safe enough car (you will be scruitenered).

    FYI about the event -
Officially: It is a 'fun-day' not a full-on track day so the restriction is that you can only drive at "80% of your or your car's ability" - basically this means; don't spin out. If they perceive you to be driving too fast/unsafely (or your car is depositing fluids on the track) then you will get black-flagged the first time and banned from the track the second time.
There is no restriction on the cars that can enter the track, so you can get some really slow & fast cars on the same track, and there are plenty of new drivers who can be very unpredictable. Take it easy in the first few hours.

Unofficially: They are very strict during the first few hours, but once the day progresses the marshalls get very lenient. Last year in July, by around 1pm, after most of the noobs were gone, there were people drifting and they were not told off! I was fanging my car full pelt with the wheels spinning wildy and the back wagging and I never got told off either. Just be responsible.

There is a pre-meet happening with the Victorian division of Mighty Car Mods club at 5am in the morning.
Location: BP servo at 1 Scanlon Drive, Epping, Victoria 3076 - just before the hume highway
    Departure: 5:30AM SHARP

If you're interested in coming along with the MCMM group then please let me know so I can let them know to expect you.
Just PM me your name & car. We usually hang out together and do a gold coin donation BBQ with drinks. Nice day out.

    Thanks!

    (P.S.
The local cops know about this event and usually are around the area and on the roads - especially around the Winton township. Every time I've seen speed cameras and piggies hiding the bushes waiting to breatho, speed check and defect. Don't be a ****head, especially if you're cruising up with the MCM crew. We've had a spate of poor behaviour and we're getting fed up. Someone is likely to be soon made an example of and reported to the police.)

      Hi mate!

Sounds good. Lucky you that you don't have to spend $40 of petrol to get there and back

There are no helmets to rent over there unfortunately.

If you join the MCM Melb crew then maybe you can borrow a lid from someone, and do a swichtero during scruiterening. (Borrow someone's helmet who got passed earlier).
Otherwise we have some members who have helmets and are not driving on the day and others who are motorbike riders with spares. I got lent one from someone in the group to use last year.

You can also helmets for fairly cheap. They come in handy - esp if you do go karting or come back for other racedays/drags etc.
Here in Melbourne - a motorbike shop in Lilydale sells them for $70. You can buy online but make sure it's ADR approved and not a fakie either. Look around on the net and see what you can find. Maybe a 2nd hand one might be alright if you clean it out well

What's your car mate? I'll let the MCM crew know to expect you? We have a fb event, would be good to ad you to it.

I remember seeing a Blue Skoda wagon the track. That thing was quick! You were tearing up the track!

Did you enjoy the experience? I love these fundays. And the car culture in the pits is great too.

Shame about the very hot weather. I could only get about 15mins of on-track action before she'd hit about 120deg operating temp and I needed to let her cool down.

            How'd your car go?

Any chance that you can post up earlier next time and also make a posting in the Motor Sports sub forum?

If you have a calendar, I can add your days to the Vic Track Days thread as this would be very good for this who want to do a 'toe in the water' track day.

You may even end up with a slow diesel Polo turning up.

Yeah I'll defs try to make it to every fun day. Dont really see the need to fork out for a track day as yet. This is what I was just writing up for my blog:

Time to post up some much awaited Winton Fun Day photos! First time on the track and had a ball. My dad really struggled with the race lines and pretty much sat in the middle of the track and had trouble letting people over take lol.. Car went amazing especially after the timing belt change. Brakes lasted for ten laps at a time somehow! But as soon as I tried to make up time from braking hard they were too hot after about 4-5 corners (after a cool lap as well!).

Overall the day was run and managed well, with the ability to spend pretty much all day out there if you wanted to, you just have to keep swapping from with/without passenger (run in 20 minute blocks). Petrol is 50c cheaper in Benalla, I went through 2/3 of a tank after roughly 50 laps/150km lol. There is actually some great racing moments that were had, and also if you wait till the later 2-3 hours of the day, you can time your cool-laps right so that you have an uninterrupted run, to get the best time. I had Race-Chrono running, which is a pretty amazing app, but my battery died so I lost my fastest times I reckon my best would have been 1.49-1.50 at this point (recorded 1.52 earlier. So much understeer was the hold-back.
