Good article on brakes, Sean. I always bed-in new pads and rotors, but that procedure is different to what I've learned. Good stuff.

Regarding coaching: time attack and all QR sprints have the option of getting Doug Chapple for a classroom + in-car tuition for $100. I just had him teach me at QR during yesterday morning's time attack. He also recommended one of these to go with your helmet: Head & Neck Support RPM Foam Neckbraces | Revolution Racegear
It may prevent your neck from snapping if you hit something head-on and your heavy helmeted head continues to move forward. I'm getting one.

7 April noon - QR street sprints $145 - maybe
        17 April 6pm - QR night sprints $135 - YES
19 April all day - BMW Club QR track day (don't need to me a member and includes free training) $245 - YES
        20 April morning and/or afternoon - LP time attack $170 half-day $300 full-day - NO
20 April morning - LP vwwatercooled happy laps - YES

        9 May morning and/or afternoon - QR time attack $170 half-day $300 full-day - maybe (half-day)
11 May noon - LP street sprints $145 - NO
12 May morning - QR RCCQ happy laps - YES
22 May noon - LP midweek sprints $135 - YES
        25 or 29 May late arvo - Willowbank test n tune drag (1/4-mile) $45 - YES

        Now, who's in for what?

Here's what I'm thinking. This could change if I find myself alone with multiple Evos, JDM and MX5s or its raining

QR Happy Laps (if that's confirmed) 14th April
Save for a helmet and tow hook and miss BMW this time.
Time Attack LP (see what regulars suggest half day/full day with training) 20th April
QR RACCQ Happy Laps 20th May
Willowbank Test n' Tune 25th May

I'd consider Time Attack QR (half day) if it wasn't on a Thursday and I don't expect to get on the main list for April Watercooled Happy Laps.

@ BMW, you've got me, Migs, Simon Harrex as a coach, a good atmosphere and a full day to hone your skills. Reconsider.

Time Attack, I recommend half day. Your coach would be Doug Chapple. Cost would be 170 track fee + 100 training + 20 or 80 transponder + 20 or 55 AASA licence = 310 to 405. If you do the morning, I'll stick around after happy laps.

If you come to BMW, I'll share one of my tow hooks with you, so you can continue saving for one

I consider my model-like features to be slightly worthy of a helmet that costs more than $70, but appreciate your offer and will sleep on it. Time Attack isn't cheap either. Anyone here thinking of doing TA @ LP?

Helmet only protects your brain; your face still gets f-ed up.
And that's only if you f up.

Ben, to do the BMW day, we also need to pay for the transponder don't we? I accept the need for the AASA license. So $245 + $20 or$80 + $20 or $55?

So a full day at QR with BMW Vs half a day at Lakeside for the same coin? I'm pretty much sold on BMW.

Al, do you not have a tow hook with your spare wheel? My car car came with the hook.

Yep, got one with the spare, for some reason I thought you had to have two?

I agree with you on the BMW day, it seems better value.

Two are recommended, but not required. If you have one, put it on the front.

                          Lets run with that assumption

Regarding signing up, have you done that yet and how well will it be received with the VW's there. I'm going to join if I can get the semi slicks sorted.

I've seen the way you drive, you'll need semi slicks.

Lets run with the assumption, do I need forms to fill in and make payment somewhere?

I'll sign up as soon as I'm on my next credit card cycle in a week
VW's are well received. There are Porsches and lotuses and evos and other japs. Mainly BMW but a smattering of other cars to keep things interesting.
Registration is online: BMW Club QLD
Go to event calendar and click on the appropriate event and voilà!
You'll need to enter a lap time and which circuit it applies to (for grouping purposes). Cars get regrouped during the day if mismatched. I'm 1:02 sprint, 1:05 clubman, 1:30 national if that helps.
