That second one must have really got the adrenaline pumping Guy, its downhill too. Lucky you had AWD to get you back out of the kitty litter
Yep Arno, I didn't have much option but to turn the wheel & yank the handbrake on - anything to try to slow her down. Missed the tyre wall by at least 5 feet in the end

Congrats on lap time Guy. Electric handbrake could have spoiled the day!
Well most nationals prep involves giving the car a good clean and organising what undies ill wear. Not this time! As some of you will know I purchased a Cupra from Matty and was getting it ready for nats. Well I took it down to the wire. Wednesday arvo I got the RWC, Thursday moring 11am I gorr rego at Vicroads. Cutting it fine. Car was straight away home, wound coilover down, widder wheels on, remove exhuast silincer and update my facebook.
After packing my car with tools, spare wheels, beer and a cange off clothes I meet up with Stu and we headed off to pick up Dylan. Leaving Melbourne around 9pm.
Ahhhhhhhh...
Burwood to Camberwell is about 10mins and we have already had a break down. Stu dropped his guts.
Lucky we were able to cut off the damged hose and rejoin it. Took us a while to find a tap though.
Had to pick up some wheels from some suburb I didnt know existed taking 900 different turns.
Some where near violet town.
Now this is a new car, its lets just say not even a day old and the fuel light has come on, ahhh my Mk3 can drive a good few KM's before I run out of sniff. So we decide to pull into Benella to refuel, out of the 6 servo's none were open.
So we drove 19mins to Glen Rowan at around 80km/h. I for the first time in my life ran out of fuel. Lucky we werent too far and Stu grabbed us some sniff.
Its 3am by now and we arrive into Albury. Reece has been kind enough to let us crash for the night, didnt expect to arrive so late but we made it. Thanks heaps for letting us crash and that was the most amazing blow up bed iv ever felt in my life. I fell asleep in 2mins.
Well woke up about 9am feeling something human but also deaf. Heeeeeeeeyyy!!! Yeah now my cupra doesnt have much sound insulation, no radio and a straight exhuast. Its loud... My ears were still ringing and felt like I had been to the beac all day and my ears full of water. Becuase Reece is such a top bloke he provided us with no only a bed but also some ear plugs. I owe ya a beer for these!
Grabbed a feed at Dean st
And on the road to Wagga. (Note ear plugs)
Now Zale, Simon and Sam are the Wagga boys and iv never been there, always paid out on the place and well it wasnt that bad.
Simon and Zale had been working on the VR6 and we arrived with Ben to give em a hand.
Bleed brakes:
Fix some fuel leaks
Got status.
Wheels alliigned and the VR6 pretty much done. Dyland, Ben and myself left for Goulburn to get the motel. Haden, Zale and Simon arrived around 1am with the tea bagging. We were so stuffed so it was sleep.
6:30am alarm ahhhhhhhhhhh. Dylan was a good spoon though. Up and at em. Goulburn macca's and 2 degrees it was bloody cold.
At the track by 8am and into track day mode, unpack car, swap wheels and get entry done.
Had a wicked day and ill give a report in the motorsport section about that.
Team mate love:
Leaving the track around 5pm the trip into Sydney took it time, Dyland choose the senic ethnic route and we finally arrived in North Bridge. Mischa ia a top bloke and always has a nice comfy couch to sleep on.
Some food, partying and beer were had but I was wrecked and into bed ealry. Was so fast asleep we didnt even hear Stu testing the bed frame out...
Ahhhhhhhhhhh such a good sleep as I look out the window to a fine morning. **** it 9:30 we have slept in. **** **** ****... Forgot to set the alarm. Whoops. Car chase, stance nation and no car wash we arrive at teh show 2mins. Ahhh well we have out littl show in the car park.
Great turnout of cars, good people and some bargains at the swap meet stands. In regards to show feel this had the best atmosphere about it, my 5th nationals and it was good fun. Would be really good if the trophies were earlier and all the aircoolers didnt start up while the watercooled trophies are being read. Ohh well.
Great turnout of Mk2 and Mk3's guys. Anthony your Mk3 is sex and Jose your Mk2 amazes me!
SIMON WON A BLOODY CAR. Black bora crew BBC reps!
Poped by to visit Seb and see his collection of projects. Lots going on there.
Well we dont just come to Sydney to play cars. A night out around the Bridge was awsome with vivid lights. Good fun and saw some of Sydney iv never been to. Enjoyed walking across the bridge and around the rocks.
Back to Mischa's and Dyland and I played some internet and I got drunk. And we could hear Stu this time!
Up and at em. Some good coffee and pack the car. Always takes longer on the leave home.
Cut some hot laps on block in the Audi S2 and made wm happy in the pants.
Stopped by Camden GTI for chart with Loon, and got msome parts. Thanks mate you are a great help.
Melbourne bound.
Bit of car swapping and some funny steering wheel antics and we made it home at mid night.
This was a smaller nationals trip but also a special one, I did 2189km's in a pretty much new car to me that I got rego'd the day I left, did a track and didnt put a spanner near the car all weekend. Had some awsome times and just enjoyed myself.
Here is a few people I have to thank.
Dylan and Stu well done for being road trip buddies.
Simon, Zale and Aden top Wagga boys.
Mischa for the couch and tour guide in Sydney.
Ben from Albury for being a good bloke and help over the weekend.
Reece for the bed on Thursday night. Ill try not to be so late next time.
Matt at Camden for the parts.
All the VW club of NSW for the show and super sprint work.
Anyone who raced or went to the show and shine.
And lastly my Dad for helping me so much finishing the Cupra.
