    Hello gents,

I've been off VWWA for a while - few months in Indonesia + 1 1/2 months in Japan, plus my Polo being piledriven from behind by a Landy with a bullbar = no more VW for Scotty. Not gonna buy a new car just yet as being in Japan has sorta made me realise that I need to make moves to try to move back there again, so as of now I'm not officially a dubber, BUT I'd like to come along for the cruise and come have a chat with peeps / catch up at DOVW.

I'm minding mummy's car whilst she's overseas in Europe during this period, so I'll be coming along in her jacked up 2.0 CVT Gunmetal Megane - it's gonna be awesome.

    See youse blokes there!

I am coming over again this year, was bringing the Mk6 and Caddy over but the plans for the van have changed, am picking up a Mk3 whilst over there, will enter that instead but it wont be close to winning anything. Its a cheapy to compete in next year

Late notice of some parking issues.

                        Day of the Volkswagen 2012
                        Venue parking update

We have been advised by the Yarra Valley Racecourse as late as two weeks ago that they have completed an extensive grass replacement program and as a result we have been restricted in where we are able to park cars inside the venue. This work was done as a result of the floods that devastated the venue last year and of course the best time to plant grass is spring which is right in the middle of our event. The grass replacement program was not initiated as a direct attempt to complicate our event, we just happen to stage our event in the same time that these works must be completed.

We have lost access to some 2/3rds of the available grass parking area from in front of the two grandstands then proceeding down the track to the left of the presentation grandstand.

Given the notice period our options were to re-arrange the parking arrangements or cancel the show completely. We have opted to re-arrange the parking arrangements.

Parking inside the venue this year will be limited to the groups that normally park on the left had side of the traders hall, pre-registered vehicles, cars that enter to be judged on the day and display cars such as the Cabriolets and the B1 Passats.

There are three vehicle entrances to the venue, with the first entrance next to the turnstiles which is usually left closed.

This gate will be opened this year:

                        • 7.30am for traders entry
                        • 8.00am for swap setup entry
                        • 9.00am to 11.00am for pre-registered cars that are not being judged

If your car is to be judged (pre-registered or entry on the day) please enter the usual judging lane noted as Gate A. Modified and Standard judging will be completed outside the venue, at the end of the judging lane. When your car has been judged you can turn right into the venue to park. The venue gate at the end of the judging lane will not be opened until 9.00am as public judging does not start till then.

There is a small area of parking available in front of the grandstands about 3 meters away from the track fence. Please head for this area and a parking marshal will direct you on where to park.

If your car is not being judged and you want to be part of the show display please enter Gate B. The payment station will be at the top of the entry lane so it will be possible to enter this area from 8.00am. Entry inside the venue however remains at 9.00am.

At the end of this entry lane turn left into the grassed parking area where a parking marshal will direct you to park. Parking in models (Kombis, Beetles etc) will be available.

The entrance fee to park in this area is $25 which includes entry for 2 adults.

If you are not inclined to pay this entrance fee, free parking is available in the Jockeys and Horse Float parking areas which can be found on the right in Armstrong Grove just before the turnstile entrance to the venue. Please look for the entrance to these car parks before you get to the main venue entrance. Park your car and walk up to the turnstile entrance. The walk in adult entry fee is $10 with access to the venue available from 9.00am.
We are disappointed that we have to make these changes so close to the event but it really is out of our control and we are trying to make the best of the situation so the day is as good as it usually is.

What will not add value to anyone’s day is to argue or complain to the volunteers who manage the gates or marshal the cars because no amount of arguing on the day will give us any additional parking space inside the venue this year. If you are not inclined to pay the parking fees then take the walk in option described earlier.

On a positive note when you see what the venue has done to improve the grounds which includes an enlarged parking area in front of the grandstands, further clearing of land to the left of the grandstands plus movement of the back fence to enlarge the area the swappers are normally located in you will agree next year’s DOVW, which is planned to be a two day event will be fantastic.

Thank you for your support and understanding, we hope you all have an great day at the Day of the Volkswagen 2012.

Hmm so does that mean the bulk of us who dont want to be judged but just participate should park in the General VW parking area via gate B. People who are entering the judging should enter via Gate A then park inside the main grounds?

Shame about the limited space within the grounds but seems to be an ok compromise. The show must go on afterall!
