Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

After the the show we headed off to Bendigo. We received an invitation from Detlef & Geisla to stay with them for a couple of nights. But first I had to ring my sister to see if it was OK to look after our Kelpie for another couple of days.
Through the Tunnel.
Onto the new Bolte Bridge. That wasn't there the last time we were here.
This was a very impressive drive onto the Bendigo Freeway/Highway.

On our way to the Aldi Store, Detlef stopped at a car yard to show me a Mk IV Golf GLE, 80000km, $15500. I don't know why he had to show me that. It was an unusual colour, Bronzy - Orange, auto. I decided to come back with Julia later & have a look. In the end we nearly bought it, $15000. But it had a broken front cup holder & rear ashtray, the steering wheel was crappy at the top as it had been in the yard for quite a while and finally the steering wheel was off centre by alot. They would not repair the boken interior pieces, so I walked away. And I HATED the wheels!!

Tuesday morning was time to return home (unfortunately), and prepare for our trip away in the Green T4 Transporter.
Somewhere in the middle of Victoria...
First stop was Horsham, refuel & Subway lunch. Fuel economy was fantastic, 7.78 L/100Km - 36.31 mpg, best 7.61 L/100Km Horsham to Adel - worst 8.03 L/100Km Melb to Bendigo. The Golf was definately down at the back, from the 3 cartons of German Bier bought at Aldi.
A Caddy heading towards Melb on the Highway.

It was a great trip. The Show day was very enjoyable - fantastic to catch up with old friends and meet some of you from the board. Our side trip to Bendigo was very enjoyable also. Next year we need name tags with our name & user name
Update on the coolant level. After topping up at the Dandenong Tourtist Park all went well until we hit Portrush Rd in Adelaide when the coolant light began to flash. I left it until we got home and used the last of my coolant, which still fell short. Took it to Volksfactory and we tried a new coolant bottle cap, that didn't work.
After some diagnosing, they found unburnt fuel getting into the coolant, sounds expensive. As yet we don't know why, if more fluid is getting into the coolant, why is the level low. I may have found the answer, when I was looking for the problem, I noticed a lot of condensation coming from the exhaust.
Ian at the Volksfactory says I probably won't get the Golf back until Christmas, as they are very busy at the moment & it looks a big job. The motor has a newish head gasket, and Ian thinks that the head bolts were reused instead of new ones fitted. I hope that is all that is wrong.
Anyway, I look forward to meeting you all again next year.
