Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Sounds interesting. I would love to turn up in my 'Eco-friendly' r32. Is it open to all makes?

Yeah I'm up for it. Would like to finally know what is the best economy I can squeeze out of the diesel cruze (provided its open to all make and models).

All makes and models are welcome - I'll check with the organiser if you need to be a member of a CAMS affiliated car club to enter, though.

It'd be great to have fellow vDubClub members along.

I've confirmed that you don't need to be a member of a car club and that you can enter on the day.

A navigator is advised, though, but I'll probably try it solo.

I remember reading a motoring magazine article many years ago about the release of the Renault 12 in Australia and they promoted it within the trade mags by doing an economy run. The particular journalist (his name escapes me atm) and his co-driver/camera man decided that was no fun at all and thrashed the little 12 over every leg. The economy they returned was atrocious as you can imagine, but at the end of the run they were the only ones who had fun.
This has been my philosophy on economy runs ever since

                  Ever tried one?

It's much harder then hooning about (or even just trying to drive fast on public roads).

Oh well, I was hoping at least one 6R Polo TDi or Bluemotion Golf would want to participate but it looks like I'll be trying to uphold the stingyness of VWs.

Thanks for posting these details here Greg. It was a great day. Interesting to see the range in economy from old to new cars and different fuels.

I'll post some more pics on my blog later.

I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and it was great to see the variety of cars there (including the MkIV Golf GTi).

Thanks for navigating for me, Paul and the pics have turned out great - can't wait to see the rest on the blog.
