Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • QLD MK1 Driver's Group - Meet#3

    Hi All,

As mentioned at the workshop meet, the next group activity is at Valla. Valla is held at the Valla Beach Resort in NSW and runs from Friday 3rd August to Sunday 5th August. Information about the event can be found in the latest issue of VWMA on page 45. It is held every two years and is the largest gathering of VWs in the one place in Australia. For those with a MK1 Golf from all states considering coming along, the proposed itinerary is as follows:

    • Friday 3rd August - For those in Qld the Group will meet at the new BP Service Centre on the Pacific Highway just south of the Tweed at approx. 4.30am! The early start is so we can reach the first activity for the weekend - timed sprint racing at Raleigh Go Kart Track. This day is the second day of racing as part of the motorsport activities at Valla. The Raleigh Go Kart track is located just south of Coffs Harbour. The red 3 door Mk1 on display at the workshop meet is currently being sorted into a track car for the day. Three people from the Mk1 Driver's Group will share the car and I took names of people from the Qld workshop who were interested in having their name included in a lucky draw for a drive sponsored by VWMA and Browns Plains Mechanical, which includes your entry and as many laps as you can squeeze in. This draw will happen at the end of this month (June). The Group will spend most of the day at the track.

Check-in at the Valla Resort will happen in the evening. Some members of the Mk1 Driver's Group have already booked accomodation at the resort. If you have not done so and intend staying for the weekend, please let me know and I will try and find some spare beds. The evening will be spent at the resort at a nominated cabin, and Pizzas will be ordered from the local Pizza shop. BYO.

    • Saturday 4th August - Street Parade in Nambucca Heads. The parade leaves from the resort at approximately 9am, and as there are over 350 cars participating we will try to organise a meeting spot at the resort to cruise together. The Street Parade stays in the main street of Nambucca until lunch, and then returns to the resort for the swap meet. VWMA will have a trade stand setup that afternoon, so I will be busy for the rest of the day. However, there is plenty to see and do. That evening there is a dinner organised in the main hall at the resort. If you wish to be included you will have to let the event organisers know on the Friday when you arrive to book your name(s) in. Otherwise the Group may decide to dine in town.

    • Sunday 5th August - Show'n'Shine at the resort. This is optional to enter, but you can also park your car in the same area if you do not wish to be judged. The Mk1 Driver's Group will try and park together. The day ends at about 2pm, and some from the Group will be heading home, while others are staying overnight for the fireworks display and returning home Monday.

That's a rough idea of what will be happening at Valla for the Mk1 Driver's Group. All MK1 drivers from all states are invited to join in what has been planned, although you would need to organise your own cruise to the weekend.

    More later.

    Cheers
