Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW ACT/NSW - Wakefield Park Track Day

    Hey guys,

Am probably posting this in the wrong section, so feel free to move if necessary.

Have been thinking about going and doing an (amateur) track day in the Golf, up at Wakefield park in the next few months.

Ideally, we'd be able to get a few guys from Canberra, meet up, and drive up to Goulburn for the event.

Does anyone have any previous experience with this, and would they be interested?

Should probably add that I'm fresh to track days, and was just keen to see what the car's got in a safe environment.

Wouldn't be competitively racing - probably just lapping, maybe a small bit of overtaking :p

Track days up at Wakefield are fun. Took the R up and had a good time. and there a lot of R owners in Canberra. You will realise during and after driving that having semi-slick's and or better brakes will make the day much better. My standard brakes took a little while to recover after a day of chasing evo 9's around..

Always keen to head up to Wakefield for a day - it's a great circuit to learn on, very safe with good runoff and minimal opportunity to run into things if something goes wrong.

With the public "Speed off the Streets" days the weekends get pretty busy, so if you can head down for a weekday that's always best. Similarly November is probably better than December / January in terms of the number of cars on the track. On the public days they run 3x 20min sessions split into Street, Race and Open Wheelers, which means on a busy day you can have a heap of cars trying to get out in the Street session which will make the day less enjoyable. If they get more than about 40 cars then the 20min gets split into smaller groups so you get even less track time.

If you've got a very flexible schedule sometimes it's best to wait until about 9:30 or so and give the circuit a call to see how busy they are that day. If they've got less than 20 street cars then it's worth driving up even if you don't get onto the track until about 11am, as you'll likely get more track time that way then if you arrive at 8am and it's a really busy day.

If you have some dates in mind please let us know as I'd be keen to come along, and can usually rustle up a few mates as well.

Any of you know how much it costs to hire Wakefield on a weekend?
                  BIG $$$$$$$$$
Also, people talk it up but rarely attend.
Whenever I've posted about a MRT Track Day at Wakefield,it's so far yielded about zero from these forums....

A few of us are looking at heading up on Thursday 17th November if anyone is interested in coming along.

There's a public date on Sunday 13th November (the only weekend between now and Christmas) but I'd expect that day to be pretty busy, hence our heading up on a weekday.

Is that the Circuit club organised one?

I would go to more track days but ive used up all the holidays on my upcoming trip to Japan beginning of next year

No - just a public Speed off the Streets day.
