jesus i just watched that video - the sun looks high so i dont know, but did you guys get started late or something?

or are there really that many wannabe tour-de-france puffcakes up there, these days?

also, i love that diesel engine sound (for real).... wish my polo tdi wasnt rear ended its brains out by a landcruiser.

    is yours mapped?

there is A LOT left in your car, if you're that way inclined

i just bought something cheap, but already i'm thinking about another - i'd like it to be VAG and diesel. they are SO underrated.

It'll be interesting to see how many rock up this Sunday I guess..

                        • Here is what I posted...

Is it fair to say that the "1st weekend VW cruise" is dying a slow death?

During this 2013-'14 spring/summer period, we're lucky to get numbers worthy of a trip and so now that it's coming into winter... well... you don't even get posts in this forum anymore. Fortunately vwwatercooled is more active.

Added to this are people starting up other endeavours (I know of WaterCooled forum's Monday meets, Friday nights, WestSide meets and now coffee meets), and I'm sure people's activities of selling cars and moving around has also had an impact.

Is it time to rethink the future "get togethers" of the Melbourne VW community as a whole? because presently there seems to a lack of interest for this event and and movement toward having various event types throughout the year.

Anyone wish to comment? or discuss?

I think it would be sad for this event to fully die as I really do enjoy getting together and having a chat over breaky about all-things VW.

I also don't know what the solution is.

Perhaps before any discussion of solution or ideas, I think it would be good to get a baseline of just how many people are actually interested in getting together in the first place.
If it's a low number – well then I guess it speaks for itself...
If it's a high number, then that suggests it's worth tabling some ideas.

Are moderators able to help here with any stats about who visits certain [VIC] related Event posts?

I'm not wanting a flame war either, I'm just curious if anything is thinking what I'm thinking...

                          thoughts anyone?

                          --

there's few responses so far over at the other forum...

                          • right, gotcha.

i think that there are people out there who do enjoy the pleasure of driving, i certainly know that i loved going to the first of the month drives.

but i think that as time passes, people have lost interest (going by your post - not dissimilar to the melbourne westside meets, last time i checked), and perhaps a VAG only first of the month isnt the kind of direction that would see decent numbers rocking up - same cars, same route, same same.

admittedly, it's a fantastic route - safe, gorgeous corners, fulfilling... i dunno, maybe people are also a bit wary of all the tour de france dudes practicing for the giro d'italia every weekend up in the hills.

i think that there might have to be a big pool of people involved, so that even if numbers are little from each group, there's still a decent turnout each time - cue james' (waterboy) aussie hot hatch facebook page - maybe make it about a genre, rather than just a single breed/ family?

it'd probably be easy to get nicer numbers if this was opened up to other groups (e.g. VIC imports club), but then you'd also have the "that kind of person" factor to deal with (yes, it does take a certain kind of person to hang out in their grey import/ falcodore at the sunshine maccas parking lot on a saturday night, we all know this).

how many people are you looking for at these meets? is it more about 10+ cars, or are people just as happy if it's only like 3 cars?
