  • NSW Eastern Creek - Track Day?

So as a new R32 owner, and wanting to test her out properly not just at 50kph on Sydney Roads, I had a look at track days.

I saw there were a few at Eastern Creek (and wakefield park, but thats miles away).

Has anyone here been to one? worthwhile?

I am looking at going to one in the next month or so, could be fun to get a few people there?

Or who knows, maybe even book it out as a private session if there is enough interest! Ha

There is a Track Day at Marulan on Friday[12th]
It is run by MRT Performance.[mrtperformance.com.au]
$250 includes morning tea and lunch plus any instruction required.
Brett Middleton and I are the Instructors.
Please don't tell me it's too far away.Since Oran Park closed we have very little choice in Curcuits to hire.
Eastern Creek is beyond belief witth their hiring charges,so Marulan and Wakefield are the only ones available in NSW and there's nothing that we can do about it.
      Cheers

The Driving Solutions days at Eastern Creek are pretty good value.

I'll be at Marulan private track day tomorrow with about 20 other people. $130, includes a couple of instructors if you want time with one but take/buy your own lunch.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

lowtdi - Thanks you will not be disappointed when you do!

MACCAA - I had a feeling that Eastern Creek would be a ridiculous price to hire, had never heard of Marulan before (am new'ish to Australia as well) and definitely to owning a car here. How many and what level of driver will be there on the 12th? I am completely new to track driving! Also how long on the circuit is there?

Banzai - The driving solutions option was what I was looking at before, shame I missed out on seeing the track day for Sunday! How many people went, was it a good day?

I am guessing something like this can be hard on the tyres, etc - worth leaving on my older set of tyres and replacing after? (they have a nice little resonance (not speed wobble) at about 30-40kph!

I did an MRT track day at Wakefield in my previous car (Ford Fiesta) and had a great day. It is open to anyone that wants to have a go so varying levels of driving ability and cars. If I recall correctly the procedure was 6 cars on the track at any one time and a limit of 4 laps at a time. By limiting the number of cars on track there are plenty of safe passing opportunites for the faster cars. When you come off you can go straight on the back of the queue. I think I got in about 8 or 9 session on the day including one with an instructor and another as a passenger in MACCAA's S3. In all was a top day and will definitely be going again when I get a chance.

The track at Marulan is Marulan Driver Training Circuit[mdtc.com.au]
We have all levels of drivers, from new to very experienced. There is absolutely heaps of laps with a limited number of cars on the track and as much instruction as you like.
Marulan is a low speed circuit and is very good for beginners.
Tyre wear isn't much of an issue at these days as long as the wheel alignment is OK and the car is driven sensibly.
Everyone who has attended these days has a ball.
              Cheers

ahah i tried recently and failed. myself and two mates are booked in for the 21st (Sunday) August, so long as my diff is back together.

it's $100 for the day (you pay on the day) & there is no scrutineering.

so if anyone want's to come down on the 21st i know that there are about 20 cars already on the list, myself included. cheers.

(and yes, eastern creek is so expensive...i love wakefield but it's a little to far with work the next day)

We had about 19 people for the day with perfect weather and a good amount of track time. I was aiming for a 42 second lap but couldn't quite get there. I need more practice.

Very few people would be able to get speeds above 120km/h at Marulan. For most cars the track is all 2nd and 3rd gear with an average lap time of 50 to 55seconds in an average street car. Quick cars do it in about 42 to 45 seconds. Only a handful of cars have lapped under 42 seconds and the (unofficial) lap record is held by an EVO at just under 40 seconds.

Marulan has one unfriendly neighbour. Your car will be noise tested before being allowed on the track. If your car is too loud the staff will fabricate an exhaust plug out of chicken wire to quieten your car.

The track is relatively safe but it is possible to damage your car if you go off the track. I've only seen a couple of very minor incidents with no significant damage thanks to the lowish speeds and shortish stopping distances. I have heard of cars being seriously damaged. As usual on the track, drive sensibly and within your limits.
If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

I did notice on the lap video the run off is a little on the bumpy side! Like you say though, sensible driving solves all of that.

$100 is pretty cheap to go and have a drive, although for my first time I think it would be great to get to an MRTPerformance day, due to the instruction, etc that would be massively beneficial. After a few of those it would be time to go it alone.

I am lucky in only having a standard R32, so noise shouldnt be an issue

Now I just have to find a free day!
