Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • NSW Putty Road Cruise - Sunday August 7th.

    Hey guys,

For all those in the other thread keen for a Putty Road run, I've sorted out a decent route. We can make use of the free ferries which is fun They both run 24/7 and Sackville crossing is only shut 1st Tuesday of every month. Wisemans is open 24/7 (no maintenance period as they run 2 ferries).

Meet at either Gosford Olympic Swimming Pool carpack if your a coasty/newcastle dubber. Or maybe meet us on Putty Rd if you want to join at Windsor?

Hopefully we'll have enough with UHF's to pick a channel and be able to communicate the whole way. I've 2 sares if anyone needs one.

I reckon meet @ 9:00am, leave no later than 9:30am.

Here is my proposed route. Maybe its a bit long? I dunno what everyones up for. It wouldn't take as long as it says tho I don't think. Just the correct KM's.

    FOR THE CENTRAL COASTERS:

Iguanas to F3 Sydney-Newcastle Fwy, Central Coast NSW - Google Maps

    FOR THE SYDNEY-SIDERS:

We'll meet in the carpark of Ettamogah Pub on Windsor Rd at Rouse Hill. It's on the left pretty much where Windsor Rd joins with Old Windsor Rd. It's a funny looking building, hard to miss. Not sure on time yet but I'll put it in here once we have it all worked out and synchronised.

Ettamogah Pub, Rouse Hill --> Putty Rd meet-up point --> Singleton --> F3

We'll then meet on Putty Rd on the side of first safest breakdown lane past Bull Ridge Rd (this spot is marked "B" in the above link), where the Central Coasters will jump onto Putty. We'll meet and greet and I think we'll decide when we'll make the next stop (I reckon at the Halfway House for a bit of a leg stretch but we'll see).

The proposed route HAS ALREADY BEEN SET. If you want to go through another piece of road instead,, set up the plan in detail with route diagrams and such, set a date and create a new thread.
    - Cheers, Raymond.

This should be a great drive, I've only done Putty Rd once but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll have to see what situation I'll be in as I don't have a car at the moment (though planning on purchasing this weekend).

I'll most likely meet at Windsor - if I'm definitely in for the cruise, I'll pass my number on.

Friend of mine went on a very similar route for work this week and he said theres some nasty potholes on the way .. so i think ill be taking a raincheck on this one as i would like to keep my wheels after reading elis.x's experience with potholes recently lol

the massive rain in the last few days has decorated many of sydney / nsw roads with pot holes. it's on the radio and local councils would have to dig deep into reserve to fix this problem as it it not in their normal budget...

so, it is not worth it to test the 18" / 19" against pot holes.. unless it's a cheap Tempe set.

BBS, Michelin PS2 & Co are not meant to be tested against the newly created pot holes...

You'd probably be fine if you were careful. I mean, realistically there is usually always another bit of road to drive haha. Let me know if you want to be added to the list, and make note if your joining at windsor or gosford.
