Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Was a great day at Wakefield yesterday. Good to see a reasonable watercooled turnout. There was even a decent mk1 contingent! Was good to meet some of you, and to see some of the old and the late model cars battling it out. And most of all I'm glad my old mk1 managed to survive the drive down, the thrashing and the drive home again...

                      Watercooled Fun at Wakefield

That was a fun day. I had the Blue Golf R and was trying hard to better Adams time in the R36. Sam Wood in the very worked Mk6 GTI got down to 1:11.6 and I couldn't get near that on street tyres. Adam and I ended up separated by exactly 1/1000 if a second, with him the faster.

In the end my 1:13:0501 couldnt beat his 1:13:0491

I'd be interested if anyone had piccies or video too.

Oops, I need to correct my signature. I now have an APR TBE, APR HPFP and APR tune to match that. Still can't decide on what CAI and IC to get.

I noticed how close you and Adam were. Its a cruel world If semi's give you the same improvement as they did Adam, you can expect to shave about 1/2 sec. His previous best was 1:13.5 on street tyres. Doesn't seem to yield as big an improvement for the AWD cars.

I want to know how on earth I can ever find over 1 second to get close to Sam's mk6!

Yes, 1 second takes a lot. Sam was very clean around the track. He puts a lot into that car. Engine, suspension, lightening, tyres etc and lots of experience. I'd like to ride with him for a few laps and see what he does differently.

Wait until you see someone like Warren Luff take a GTI around in the high 1.08's - that will open your eyes too

Good job to all who attended, hopefully I will be back next year.

How many runs did you get & how many laps per run?
