  • QLD SEQ Euro Scavenger Hunt - 17th April

As mentioned; Drew and I have been organising a hunt as April's Euro event. We're in the final stages of planning and I'm making this thread so people keep the day free.

Starting location: Scenic Drive, Mt Coot-tha.

Starting time: Be there at 10.30 for registration, for a starting time of 11am.
Cost: $5 (to cover food costs and prizes).

    Requirement:
    A full tank of fuel.
A GPS unit is recommended if you aren't familiar with Brisbane and its street names, but it won't help you get to the destination faster.
At least two people per car - reasons will be clear on the day.

Lunch will be provided at the finishing line.

Illegal activities are not encouraged or condoned in this event.
This challenge is based on a series of instructions and tasks which the teams must complete in order to gain the most points. Creativity, skill and humour are crucial components to being successful. As this is a family friendly event, please keep everyone's safety in mind.

This event will be posted on a few forums, but feel free to invite anyone with a Euro car!

Will this involve getting to a new place before someone else? If so, is that such a good idea lol?!

Well, on the principle that everyone obeys todays current road laws, it seems like a good idea. If there are some who, voluntarily choose to break said laws, well, that's going to be their own problem. We aren't promoting unsafe driving and don't condone it in any way.

As Drew mentioned, everyone is expected to obey the road laws. The whole event is based on points, and speed isn't the only factor that will make you win.

Having run stacks of these style of events in the past, I found these two the best methods of preventing speeding...

            Either...

            1. Time yourself doing the trip at the speed limit, and record that time. Do not publish this, but tell all entrants that for every minute under that time they will be severely punished in terms of overall points/result.

            OR

            2. The best one we did revolved around challenges that required us to take photos of things (often the entrants doing silly things, like humping a police car, or one challenge we had was to take a photo of a team member swimming) on the scavenger hunt and giving each entrant a list far bigger than they would likely be able to achieve in the allocated time. Because there was such huge flexibility to the number of options, there wasn't as much of a rush for teams to complete the challenges, and as such they were less likely to speed.

Either way, sounds good... I'm keen!

One hunt I participated in was well organized, we were given a time limit, like 2 hrs to complete as much of the list as possible. Way too many for anyone to complete all which gave flexibility to peoples knowledge, skills, risk taking etc. Certain tasks worth more points then others, as some may be harder, time consuming etc. We had some that had huge risks, like getting naked and running up Milton (hahah that was fun I might add). That was worth way more points then say "high fiving a stranger".
Every task be filmed or photo as evidence. If you want task ideas my housemate has a tonne. She organized it, went so well

Definitely interested! Got the day off and the start point is right near my place. Win!

break, option 2 sounds the best. Giving people options is the best way to go because it doesn't then become just another cruise. I once went on this ChicTorque (I think??) Scavenger hunt and it was just a cruise with activities at each cruise point. Other hunts I have been on included riddles etc to figure out where you had to go and what you had to do. There was a list of about 12 things, all on different sides of town. Impossible to complete in the alloted time, but possible to gain an advantage. The end deal was the amount of items you crossed off the list gave you extra cards in the game of poker which determined the winner.

I match your "BRB" with, "LOL", you still need to try and drive on Brisbane roads.

Not to mention that the time attack car doesn't make you smarter
