  • VIC VW Portland 2011

Firstly yes i know I'm from Queensland posting this but us Queenslanders are mad, we are making the 2000kms journey to Portland with the H2O Division Mk1 in Feb 2011. After our recent success testing the car now with a best time of 13.2 at 101mph we are keen to step it up, and will be tweaking the car over the Christmas break.

We are keen to do some rounds of racing with the car aswell as keeping the watercooled class alive in the vwma race series, so Portland is a perfect opportunity to go out and play.

18th - 20th February 2011 keep those date free no need for me to write out all the info just follow the links.

As for accommodation i will get some links sorted over the next few weeks, camping at the track is a option but have been told you will freeze to death hahaha. Portland is a tourist spot with plenty of hotels so getting a warm bed wont be an issue

It would be nice to get 10 or more water cooled this year. 5 last year was unacceptable, we need to show the air cooled boys and girls they don't have it all their own way

Thats the idea of this thread, at Vw warwick i raced my stock standard mk1 gld and went home with the trophy its anyones game

Be cool to see at least 8 cars compete at Portland, we had a blast a vw warwick this year even though there was only 5 cars was so much fun most of the air cooled guys are supportive which is awesome!

The current setup in the car is the same setup we took to warwick we basically just put it together to get to warwick was alittle last minute.

The car runs a low comp 300.000kms stock 1.8l bottom end, still running 8v head with extensive port work, stainless valves, solid lifters and a custom made camshaft for nitrous. It has seen 10.000rpm on a few occasions thats what 75hp shot of nitrous does hahaha its not turbo either if anyone was thinking that, running K-jet mechanical injection, custom clutch, lighten flywheel, 4peed with locked diff and drag slicks thats a quick summary of the car.

For Portland we hope to get the new bottom end sorted the money has been spend on the head and it works, a set of high comp forged pistons and rods will see us up the nitrous to over a 100hp shot safely.
